General

  • Peaceful and secluded farm site on the banks of the River Severn
  • Private stretch of river available for fishing
  • Breakfasts, café, firepit hire and farm shop with local produce

What a lot there is to do around this peaceful and secluded Shropshire site. Take your pick from fishing on Brook House Farm Camping and Caravan Site’s own stretch of the River Severn, hiring a bike to pedal around the Welsh Marches, or meandering around the nearby meadows for flora and fauna spotting… in a lush countryside setting between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury.

One constant in all this is the pristine views on site, with the park set in pretty countryside on the banks of the River Severn with buzzards and the occasional red kite soaring overhead. A spotlessly clean shower block is to hand for guest's use, along with a launderette and washing-up area on site too

The site is based in the grounds of the Brook House Farm B&B, where you can have breakfast. Or tuck into nosh at the café, use the squeaky clean on-site kitchen, or hire a firepit to sizzle supper under the stars with local produce and essentials from the farm shop and well-stocked shop.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No children under 14 permitted in the adults-only camping field. Families are advised to book a pitch in the family field.

Excellent site, good clean lodge, friendly helpful owners11/01/2020

Warm welcome from Julia on arrival and a tour of the site, pointing out points of interest visible from the site which was very useful. The "shed" as I affectionately called it was in fact a luxury lodge with everything you could possibly want including kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, two TV's, adding only my own radio made my stay perfect.

I had a query regarding the cooker (I didn't "click" that there was a gas lighter for the gas hob, obvious really, silly me) which was solved within ten minutes.

It was lovely having the little chats with Julia, about the area, about the camp site and the work she was having done ready for the new season. She really wanted to make sure everything was ok.

The site is close to the River Severn and the Welsh Border with plenty of options for walking & cycling from the site and points of interest only a short drive away. Shrewsbury has a beautiful mix of old and new with a riverside walk and there are a few National Trust properties nearby.

I look forward to returning in the not to distant future, maybe with my tent.

What a hidden gem this place is. Just returned from a 3 night stay with hubby and dog, we stayed in the pet friendly camping pod. Found it last minute on pitch up and it’s one of the prettiest places we have ever stayed. Julia the owner is so friendly and you feel like you have known her for years. The site is a credit to her and the hanging baskets and flowers are stunning. The pod was absolutely spotless when we arrived and there was more than enough room in it. It was definitely glamping for us as we usually stay in tents. The peace, the views and the hosts made this stay one of the most relaxing we have had in a few years and we will be recommending it to friend and family. See you next year and good luck with your new venture. Chris

    Disliked:

The site is not massive, but maybe it just seemed a little cramped as it was a busy bank holiday weekend with great weather. Their are only 2 showers which although they were kept clean it was not enough for the volume of site users. Thank god the site owner hired 2 extra portaloos!

We're so glad we found this lovely site.
It's has beautiful scenery, a friendly relaxing atmosphere and the most welcoming owners.
The shepherd's hut is cosy, beautifully decorated and immaculate. It has a really comfortable double bed, and well equipped kitchen, large TV and lovely seating and dining areas. The private garden overlooking the fishing pond has a fire pit and plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture and was the perfect place for an early morning cuppa watching the sunrise or evening drinks around the fire.
The shower and toilet facilities were clean and tidy at all times of the day, and never too busy. We enjoyed fishing on the river and my husband caught a chub around the 5-6lb mark.
We had a great weekend and will definitely be returning soon.

Local attractions

Lace up your walking boots: with Brook House Farm midway between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury, it’s a shrewd place to stop to see the Shropshire Hills and mid Wales on an active family hol.

Shropshire has over 3500 miles’ worth of right of way paths for longer distance hikes and shorter strolls; the 210-mile Severn Way passes along nearby for taking a hike along it on a day trip or stopping off at Brook Farm if you’re attempting it all. The Offa’s Dyke Path can be accessed from here too: the very helpful Brook House Farm owners can arrange a shuttle bus for you to join the trail if you let them know in advance.

For less tired feet, a plethora of outdoor pursuits within easy reach of the farm includes horse riding, mountain biking and golf; paragliding and lessons are available at nearby Rodney’s Pillar and the Long Mynd. Land some slippery characters by casting off on the River Severn: Brook House’s own stretch of river yields barbel into double figures, but there are shoals of other nearby spots to land salmon, trout and grayling. There are some commercial fisheries within 20 minutes’ drive to thrash things out at too, such as Weston Pool near Oswestry.

Once you’ve cleaned off your catch and soothed your sore feet, jump into the car for some historical highlights: the medieval fortress Powis Castle with its famous French and Italian garden; Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust; the Red Castle and Grotto Hill of the 18th-century Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies, and the town of Shrewsbury, with over 600 listed buildings.

Must see

  • Powis Castle & Garden (8.9 miles)
  • Much Wenlock Priory (20.5 miles)
  • Darby Houses (Ironbridge) (21.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Attingham Park Estate: Cronkhill (13.6 miles)
  • Attingham Park (14.1 miles)
