General

  • Peaceful and secluded farm site on the banks of the River Severn
  • Private stretch of river available for fishing
  • Breakfasts, café, firepit hire and farm shop with local produce

What a lot there is to do around this peaceful and secluded Shropshire site. Take your pick from fishing on Brook House Farm’s own stretch of the River Severn, hiring a bike to pedal around the Welsh Marches, or meandering around the nearby meadows for flora and fauna spotting... in a lush countryside setting between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury.

One constant in all this is the pristine views on site, with the park set in pretty countryside on the banks of the River Severn with buzzards and the occasional red kite soaring overhead. A spotlessly clean shower block is to hand for guest's use, along with a launderette and washing-up area on site too

The site is based in the grounds of the Brook House Farm B&B, where you can have breakfast. Or tuck into nosh at the café, use the squeaky clean on-site kitchen, or hire a firepit to sizzle supper under the stars with local produce and essentials from the farm shop and well-stocked shop.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No children under 13 permitted in the adults-only camping field. Families are advised to book a pitch in the family field.

Lovely clean and well tended site.
    Friendly easy going owners.
Not too big or over crowded
Elsie’s tea room up the road about another mile, excellent and open on Sunday for home made meals pies and cakes .

    Disliked:

Advert was a bit confusing and some advertised facilities were not available (the cafe and the shop) and no WiFi

    The £70
& £75 bell tents did not include cooking facilities as advertised so you do need to take your own camping stove or go off site to eat.
Having said that once explained the mix up o Julia ( the owner) she quickly assisted us and provided a little camping stove and kettle so we could make a drink and warm up food for the children, after a long journey to get there we didn’t want to put them back in the car to go in search of food.

What a fantastic find and Julie is such a wonderful hostess. Although rather busy building up the site she took time out to make us feel very welcome and give us some fabulous advise about where to go out.
Cannot wait to return to this site and hopefully spend many a weekend in the peace and quiet!
Even a river running through the awning due to half an hour of extreme weather did not dampen our weekend we just sucked it up and headed to the pub over the road once it had ended...!
I cannot recommend this site highly enough... but not too much as I need to ensure that there is space for us when we want to return :)

Local attractions

Lace up your walking boots: with Brook House Farm midway between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury, it’s a shrewd place to stop to see the Shropshire Hills and mid Wales on an active family hol.

Shropshire has over 3500 miles’ worth of right of way paths for longer distance hikes and shorter strolls; the 210-mile Severn Way passes along nearby for taking a hike along it on a day trip or stopping off at Brook Farm if you’re attempting it all. The Offa’s Dyke Path can be accessed from here too: the very helpful Brook House Farm owners can arrange a shuttle bus for you to join the trail if you let them know in advance.

For less tired feet, a plethora of outdoor pursuits within easy reach of the farm includes horse riding, mountain biking and golf; paragliding and lessons are available at nearby Rodney’s Pillar and the Long Mynd. Land some slippery characters by casting off on the River Severn: Brook House’s own stretch of river yields barbell into double figures, but there are shoals of other nearby spots to land salmon, trout and grayling. There are some commercial fisheries within 20 minutes’ drive to thrash things out at too, such as Weston Pool near Oswestry.

Once you’ve cleaned off your catch and soothed your sore feet, jump into the car for some historical highlights: the medieval fortress Powis Castle with its famous French and Italian garden; Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust; the Red Castle and Grotto Hill of the 18th-century Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies, and the town of Shrewsbury, with over 600 listed buildings.
