Brook House Farm Camping and Caravan Site: Lodges and camping pitch in the back

General

  • Peaceful and secluded farm site on the banks of the River Severn
  • Private stretch of river and pond available for fishing
  • Breakfasts, café, firepit hire and farm shop with local produce

What a lot there is to do around this peaceful and secluded Mid Wales site a short hop from the Wales/England border. Take your pick from fishing on Brook House Farm Camping and Caravan Site’s own stretch of the River Severn, hiring a bike to pedal around the Welsh Marches, or meandering around the nearby meadows for flora and fauna spotting… all in a lush countryside setting between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury.

You may be meandering between countries on day trips but one constant in all this is the pristine views on site, with the park set in pretty countryside on the banks of the River Severn with buzzards and the occasional red kite soaring overhead. A spotlessly clean shower block is to hand for guests' use, along with a washing-up area on site.

The site is based in the grounds of the Brook House Farm B&B, where you can have breakfast. Or tuck into nosh at the café, use the squeaky clean on-site kitchen, or hire a firepit to sizzle supper under the stars with local produce and essentials from the farm shop and well-stocked shop.

Please note

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No children under 14 permitted in the adults-only field.

Love, love, love camping? This is the place for you!08/10/2022

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! We camped in the adults only field and could not believe how beautiful and peaceful it was; our pitch overlooked the river and a huge tree lined field opposite, which meant we felt we were in the wild. The wild life was spectacular with sighting of the kingsfisher at least twice a day - what a treat. A heron visted daily, there was a family of moor hens, cormorants, buzzards, 100s of butterflies, damselfly and dragonfly and a fabulous mix of wild flowers, grasses and trees.
You think it can't get any better and then ... there's a wonderful family run bar on the site: 'The Potting Shed' with a good selection of beers on tap, great bar snack and to top it all they do awesome breakfasts (good veggie options too!) You can enjoy your beer or breakfast in a beautiful garden, in one of the summer houses or on the outdoor sofas. Inside is cozy, comfortable and welcoming with a thoughtfully, stylish, well stocked boutique. There is something for everyone (we even enjoyed wild swims!)
Julia and Sam run the site and 'The Potting Shed,' almost everything there is beautifully handcrafted and built by the super talented Sam, with design and finishes by the equally talented Julia. Julia manages the site day-to-day and is always available if you need anything or have any questions, is great to talk to and we loved hearing from Julia and Sam about their 'journey' from rebuildling Brook House Farm, to the build and design of each and every cabin, pod, bell tent and their future plans.

If you want to glamp this is a great place, if you want to be sociable and immerse yourself in some local life this is the place, if you want wild and remote with a few luxuries this is the place, if you have children who want to run around, enjoy true camping safely then this is the place - there is something for everyone who truly loves camping, in a very, very beautiful part of the world.

HUGE thank you to Julia and Sam for creating a sense of paradise!

Could do with some toilets/showers near to the tent pitches. If you rent a teepee don’t expect it to be warm!! Mid summer and we were freezing. Kids mattresses are like crash mats so bring something soft for them to lie on. Double bed v comfy just needs more blankets. Lots of wasps in beer garden (but beer garden despite wasps was beautiful)

From the manager...

Sorry to read this feedback. We have porta toilets in camping field.Due to our beautiful location by the river we cannot put showers in that area.It is only a short distance to the shower block.
Our bell tents are new ever year ,so in excellent condition. The beds have a 13 tog duvet, yes the childrens mattresses are crash mats.Has children were using the blow ups as trampolines and was throwing so many away.
We are in the middle of a heat wave ,Sorry you were cold.If you had asked I would of provided another duvet.
Hope you enjoyed everything else.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review,we take great pride and try to go that extra mile to help our customers enjoy their stay with us.
When you came into the cafe,I asked if everything was okay for you.
Then on the second morning I asked again. You said everything was lovely.
Your husband was at the local hill climb and I offered you ,you could have the shepherds hut for longer at no cost.
Then you leave a review like this, very disappointing.
Cleaned toilets at 10, o’clock,no music to be herd.

Not much to add to this, luckily the children enjoyed the three nights away!

    Disliked:

The owner was rude and very disinterested when we arrived. We were disgusted to see portaloos in the field by the Belltents, did not pay £120 per night to use these! There were 3 toilets for the whole site and 2 showers. There was one area to wash your cooking items which was also used as a sink to wash your hands after using the third toilet. We were glad to have seen the reviews before we went and took our own toilet roll as that wasn’t replenished adequately. It was very expensive for 3 nights in a Belltent with literally a bed in it and no electric not even solar lights. It was very disappointing and we will not stay there again. A beautiful facade but behind that, a poorly run site.

From the manager...

I am sorry you felt this way.It started with you wanting to cancel and have a refund for one of the bell tents the day before your stay.
As I stated I tried to re let the bell tent.
When you were at the cafe you all said you were having a lovely time and the bell tents were lovely.
I did say I would honour the booking for the bell tent to another time.
I wish you had bought your feeling to my attention.
I was apologetic about the hired toilets as the company they are hired from forgot to empty them that week, my husband tried to sort them as best he could.
The showers and toilets of our own are cleaned several times a day.
We take great pride in our site and we do get a lot of lovely reviews and people returning.
Sorry Brookhouse was not for you.

Local attractions

Lace up your walking boots: with Brook House Farm midway between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury, it’s a shrewd place to stop to see the Shropshire Hills and Mid Wales on an active family hol.

Shropshire has over 3500 miles’ worth of right of way paths for longer distance hikes and shorter strolls; the 210-mile Severn Way passes along nearby for taking a hike along it on a day trip or stopping off at Brook Farm if you’re attempting it all. The Offa’s Dyke Path can be accessed from here too: the very helpful Brook House Farm owners can arrange a shuttle bus for you to join the trail if you let them know in advance.

For less tired feet, a plethora of outdoor pursuits within easy reach of the farm includes horse riding, mountain biking and golf; paragliding and lessons are available at nearby Rodney’s Pillar and the Long Mynd. Land some slippery characters by casting off on the River Severn: Brook House’s own stretch of river yields barbel into double figures, but there are shoals of other nearby spots to land salmon, trout and grayling. There are some commercial fisheries within 20 minutes’ drive to thrash things out at too, such as Weston Pool near Oswestry.

Once you’ve cleaned off your catch and soothed your sore feet, jump into the car for some historical highlights: the medieval fortress Powis Castle with its famous French and Italian garden; Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust; the Red Castle and Grotto Hill of the 18th-century Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies, and the town of Shrewsbury, with over 600 listed buildings.
