Lyndon Top is a well-kept touring park on the shores of Rutland Water, spread over a peaceful 112 acres and with stunning views out over the water. And while those views are indeed tiptop, there’s a fair amount more to see around the lake’s shores so it’s handy that you can set straight out from the site for walks or bike rides on the path that runs all the way around the edge (22 miles in total). On top of that, there’s plenty of choice for other outdoorsy activities, including fly fishing, birdwatching, golf, canoeing and windsurfing (along with boat cruises and lakeside dining if you’re after minimal activity). Think a barbecue at your pitch might be more your kind of thing? Top plan. Such things are allowed at Lyndon Top, and you can pick up whatever supplies you need in Oakham or Uppingham (both 10 minutes’ drive), or while out in Stamford (15 minutes). Back at base, it’s a peaceful setup that welcomes families, couples and solo campers (and dogs, if you’d like to bring them) to spacious pitches in a tree-lined field. It’s really not the place for a party of any sort, so the site doesn’t accept bookings from single-sex groups or other non-family groups.

Liked that we could choose our own pitch, which, on this occasion, allowed us to choose a particularly beautiful one, but perhaps would have been a little disappointed if that one wasn’t available. Views were lovely, especially from some of the off-grid pitches…we were lucky with the view we had from our electric pitch, but again may have been a little disappointed if not in the spot we were in.
Toilet and shower block were stunning! Lots of work going on, so owners are clearly investing time and money into the site.
Owner was very understanding when we had to cut our stay short, due to a family member’s illness and we’re very prompt in sorting out a refund, so thank you!

Disliked Only 1 chemical waste disposal site, which resulted in a bit of a queue and, as it’s not the most pleasant job in the world, could cause a bit of embarrassment!

Liked This is a recently updated site. There were a very few things that needed finishing hence the 9 stars but its been done extremely well. Shower and toilet block very modern. Service points (Electric and water). The non serviced field looks good too. Highly recommended!

Disliked The way you log on using an App to get electric was a little fiddly but it worked. I booked through Pitch-up and had no idea until i got there. It would be nice to know so you are prepared.

Liked Facilities brand new and kept clean and tidy. The site was still undergoing the last of its renovations but didn’t impact the stay and can tell when it’s 100% done it’ll be a really good site. Pitches nice and spacious, site manager explained everything really well. Close to drive to pubs and the main shore areas of Rutland water and can access the nature trail to walk/cycle by the lake from the campsite
