  • Woodland site in historic Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire
  • Go Ape Sherwood 10 minutes’ walk; The Major Oak 10 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to cycling trails and forest walks; bike station on site
Set on the edge of Sherwood Forest, known the world over for its links with the mythical Robin Hood and his Merry Men, Sherwood Pines is spread across 40 acres of gorgeous ancient woodland. First and foremost, it’s an excellent base for those who have big plans to explore the forest and its numerous hiking and cycling routes; there are paths directly from the pitches that guests can get straight out onto. Second? It’s within walking distance of many of the forest’s main activities, including adventure playgrounds, Go Ape Sherwood, bike hire, shady picnic spots and a schedule of open-air concerts held throughout the year. Plenty of useful amenities are available at Sherwood Pines too, including heated lockers for backpackers, a secure bike station for cyclists, a motorhome service point and a dog wash for four-legged guests. In summer, family activities take place on site. Mobile pizza and fish and chips vans visit most weekends. There is also a fresh coffee machine and a small shop in reception, handy if you need a quick caffeine boost or a snack before a big day out on the trails.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly welcome.and escort to the pitch, the decent amount of showers in the block that were clean, hot and with plenty of pressure to make a daily visit or two enjoyable and refreshing whilst the temperature outside dropped! Otherwise facilities such as water and waste we’re adequate for a site that was quite busy during the stay. A nice touch was having pizza van and fish and chip van that came on site on the Friday and Saturday nights which have a nice option away from the BBQ. The whole area was great for walkers, dog owners and family bikers with plenty of path and trails through the forest with access to GO APE for those with cash to burn! A nice touch was the Alice in Wonderland parade morning during our stay which our kids enjoyed and came away with a prize which added to their enjoyment.

Disliked: The only real dislike was that the child’s play area was missing a swing instalment or something of a similar style, whilst the site was busy I did feel the play area was a bit small for a busy site. Only two family rooms for showers for those with little kids, so had to time it right to get a room or just wait it out. Whilst our pitch was of adequate size there were a few holes that made the pitch a little difficult to set up. WiFi was available but was intermittent and slow when connections were established.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: I cannot fault this site at all, the facilities were very clean not to mention the extras they offer such as the dog wash station, loyalty card and much more.

The staff were very welcoming on arrival and showed us where we were pitched, they also pitched us next to my parents as requested on booking.

Very easy access into the woods / bike trails, plenty of places to walk.

The site is not far from Clumber Park and other site seeing destinations so plenty to do if you dont want to stay on site.

100% recommend this site and I will definitely be returning.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Leaving.

Disliked: Upon arrival someone was meant to cycle along side us to our pitch. They disappeared ahead and didn’t wait. This wasn’t really a problem but not the best start. We were warned on arrival by another family of very late night noise and partying. We wanted a quiet location. The site was large which may suit some people but we prefer smaller, quieter sites. This is not somewhere we would return to.

Local attractions

Want to explore the forest on two wheels? You won’t need to fret about securing a bicycle rack to your precious car, as Sherwood Pines Cycles (10 minutes’ walk) is right within striking distance. Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes) is also within walking distance, making it easy to go from lounging on the pitch to gliding down a zipwire and gazing through the leaf canopies. If you’d rather spend your time batting golf balls with gusto, try the Sherwood Forest Golf Club (10 minutes) instead. For one of the area’s most legendary sights, head to The Major Oak (10 minutes’ drive), an ancient tree rumoured to be connected to the legendary Robin Hood. If you still have plenty of energy to expend on some challenging activities, the Adrenalin Jungle Activity Centre (25 minutes) runs activities such as assault courses and paintballing. Finally, should you feel like pausing the activities to take in some important history, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum (20 minutes) is not too far away either.
