Lane Down To Slate House Farm

General

  • Quiet and spacious site on the edge of the Peak District National Park
  • Ensuite pods each with kitchen, double bed and TV and DVD player
  • Eight miles from Gullivers Kingdom and 10 from Chatsworth House

Stake your claim for a prolonged stay at the spectacular Peak District pod place of Slate House Farm, a small countryside site set on a working farm nine miles from Chesterfield. Although small and never crowded, this lush site has proved rightly popular with guests, who wax lyrical about its vies, its setting, its facilities and its friendly vibe.

The site has outstanding views over the Derbyshire countryside and is surrounded by ancient market towns, swathes of country estates and walking, cycling and mountain biking trails for intrepid adventurers. Anglers (fly and coarse) can cast off about a mile away; Matlock is within three and a half miles, and it's but a 20-minute drive from the farm to the heady sightseeing of the Heights of Abraham, where strong-minded sorts can bob about the landscape in a cable car.

Slate House Farm is fably set for Peak District family days to suit all flavours too, with famed Chatsworth House within 10 miles and even more famed (to small sorts at least) Gulliver's Kingdom within eight. Alton Towers is just under an hour's drive away.

The pods each have an ensuite bathroom, a small and well-equipped kitchen, double beds with mattresses, and a TV and DVD player. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed on site.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Lovely clean pods, with everything you could possibly need, nice and cozy, extra blankets provided (we took extra aswell as it was very cold, and we needed them). Small kitchen area with hob, fridge, kettle and toaster, and bathroom with towels. Firepit outside for toasting marshmallows, remember to take skewers. Lovely views. If you have a tall teenager, take an air mattress.

Everything! The pods were big enough for a family of 4 (5yo and 2yo children), warm during the night. Very clean on arrival. The owner came out to greet us and there was milk and marshmallows along with bedding and clean towels.
The fire pit with wood was a brilliant touch, we loved it! We all enjoyed seeing the farm animals too!
As a first time glamping family I couldn’t fault it, I just wished we’d been able to say thank you for our stay before we left.
This time round we spent a day at Alton Towers, but when we book again we’d definitely like to explore Matlock, it looked stunning as we drove through.

Somewhat more grownup times can he had at Haddon Hall, also within 30 minutes.

You must def meander around the small villages of the Peak District while here too, as each are famed for their own individual thing: have tarts at Bakewell (25 minutes), hone your footballing skills at Ashbourne (40 minutes) and see the spas of Buxton, 45 minutes away.
