General

  • Quiet and spacious site on the edge of the Peak District National Park
  • Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers both within 30 miles
  • Fishing, golf, hiking, cycling and mountain biking available nearby

Slate House Farm is a small countryside site set on a working farm on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The site has outstanding views over the Derbyshire countryside and is surrounded by historic market towns, English country estates and walking, cycling and mountain biking trails.

The pods each have an ensuite bathroom, a small and well-equipped kitchen and double beds with mattresses (bed linen and towels are provided). You'll also get a TV and DVD player in your pod for those rainy days and cosy nights.

Fly and course fishing opportunities lie about a mile away from the site and you can reach the local 18-hole golf course in 20 minutes by car. If you're into mountain biking, the gritstone, peat, and limestone trails of the Peak District are within easy reach of the park, and there's a purpose-built downhill course at 11 miles away at Ambergate.

There's loads to do in the wider local area too, with the towns of Chesterfield, Matlock and Bakewell and various stately homes all within easy reach, including a country park that runs a cable car over a deep gorge to the area's famed caverns.

There's also an indoor pool, a kids' play centre and an amusement park all under six miles away, and you can get to Alton Towers in just under an hour by car.

Wonderful 3 night stay in a very well equipped pod set in a scenic location. Many lovely walks near by and also many attractions within a short drive. Ideally located as a quiet base for days out. Sandra and family could not have been more helpful, with a meet and greet which not only provided some basic essentials such as milk etc but also an explanation of facilities both inside and outside the pod. The pod itself was very clean and tidy and bed linen and towels were provided. We will be looking at returning for a longer stay next time. Thank you to Sandra and family for making us so welcome.

This was our second time visiting the pods at Slate House Farm and we will definitely be back again! The pods are really well equipped and very comfortable and the staff on the farm are lovely and happy to help with anything. A particular highlight for us was seeing the new lambs and even getting the chance to feed them! We are already excited for our next visit!

We booked a pod at Slate House Farm on the recommendation of some friends, and we are really glad we did. The pods are clean, cosy and well equipped with every kitchen utensil you would need. There are chimeneas, BBQs and outdoor seating areas for each pod. They even provide you with all the essentials like loo roll, kitchen roll, salt, pepper washing up liquid and hand wash. Also complimentary were a jug of milk, some marshmallows and logs to burn.
Towels and bed linen are supplied, with sleeping bags for the kids.
There is a tv and plenty of power sockets.
We also got really good 4g up there which was a bonus.
The view from the pods is truly breathtaking and there are some friendly horses in the paddocks around the field as well as sheep and ponies which the kids enjoyed seeing.
The owner was very welcoming and helpful and settled us in and then just left us to it.
There are some lovely places to visit nearby, like Bakewell, Matlock and Carsington Water.
We have just left and as soon as we are home I will be booking again.
