  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

This large, family-friendly campsite set on a working farm offers stunning Peak District views and direct access to Lathkill Dale walks. Visitors praised the spacious, unassigned pitches, friendly owners, and generally clean facilities, including new shower blocks. On-site food vans and a small shop were popular additions. While some noted the distance to facilities and occasional noise from other campers, the overall experience is highly recommended for its relaxed atmosphere and value.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Amazing views from the hard standing pitches. Modern shower & toilets facilities

Disliked Whilst modern & new, the showers were wet room style with no dry space for you to get dried & keep your clothes dry.
Woukd have preferred smaller shower space to accommodate for a dry area.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked the location, the views, the quiet

Shower and toilet blocks kept very clean

Disliked the reception was closed on our arrival, there were telephone numbers to call if we needed anything and our friends had arrived just before us and had spoken to the owners so we knew where to head to.

The weather was very wet, the out door washing up area was challenging inthe bad weather.

The showers and toilets are in seperate buildings

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location above the Lathkill Gorge (a beautiful y-shaped limestone gorge with soaring cliffs and caves - just a 5 minute wander down the hill. Modern Shower and toilet block. Welcoming owner with a small shop. Pizza truck on site was popular but we had our own food.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Huge site with respectable fellow campers. There was enough room on all 3 fields for everyone with a roomy pitches. Toilets and showers were very modern and clean. The views were amazing - we camped on the third field the furthest away and enjoy becoming friends with the cows and watching the amazing sunset. You can see the weather changing before your eyes with the vast landscape that is set out before you. The quiet time at the site is 11pm, which we could really appreciate as a lot of camp sites its 10pm and that always feels a bit to early. Such a great site and can't wait to go back next year!

Disliked Nothing at all, really enjoyed my time here.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location surrounded by countryside with direct access to Lathkill dale.
Food van on site, we didn't try the breakfast but the pork, stuffing and apple sauce cobs in the eve were fab! We also tried out the Wood fired pizza the next night which was also very good.
Owners were easily contactable via phone and super friendly and helpful. - especially when we ran out of firewood/kindling!
We had the privilege of popping in to the milking parlour to watch the cows being milked! That was a highlight for us. Beautiful stroll to the pub in the village, about an hour slow trek.
Showers and toilets were modern and clean, always stocked up.

Disliked The only thing I would suggest is that the sink area could do with being under cover :).

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
