Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Gorgeous, relaxed site with spotless facilities, plenty of loos and showers. Communal kitchen with coffee machine, brilliant! Dog friendly and very well kept grounds.

Disliked As your website advertises you have access to Lathkill Dale, it would be helpful to have a sign showing which way to head from campsite.

Liked Beautiful site with fantastic facilities. Fantastic location, and the facilities on site are impeccably clean and fresh. Food and drink provision for evening meals and breakfast (we stayed on a Saturday night) were excellent, and the setting is picturesque.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location, stunning views, facilities were new and could be excellent but being abused by some leaving them dirty. Too many people and not enough facilities

Disliked Pop up bar seemed to be a magnet for people in cars in the evening Cars were in and out some at far too high a speed for the site and in doing so kicked up a load of dust from the access road which blew across all our pitches. Chemical disposal needs upgrading, it was gross, pipe apparently blocked with effluent when opened. One bin at entrance which again caused people camping in the fields to use their car to deposit rubbish

Liked Had a lovely one-night stay here with our touring caravan. The setting was beautiful and very well maintained, the facilities were clean, and the food and drink vans were a great bonus. A really pleasant campsite overall and we’d happily stay again.

Liked The owners the actual site and amenities are extremely impressive. Every part of our stay here was perfect and better than we expected. Shower and toilet blocks are super clean and well maintained and the staff are really friendly. We will definitely be staying here on a regular basis now. Couldn't recommend it highly enough

Disliked We paid for the WiFi but couldn't get it in the far field. Maybe this could be highlighted when booking but it wasn't a massive issue

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked If you like walking this place is epic. Good level hard standing pitches at the top of the field with great views. Easy relaxed check in. The site was very quiet and the weather was very kind so we booked more nights, initially booked 2 nights and ended up staying for 5!

Disliked Toilet and shower blocks although very new and clean were cold and the water temperature was not very high. Doors had begun to swell making them hard to close. Elsan point is terrible and unhygienic. Dustbin and recycling area untidy and no clear signage. We tried to contact the owners and had no response.

Liked View from the pitch, access to Lathkill Dale direct from site. Good location. Able to select the individual pitch.

Disliked Facilities should be cleaned more thoroughly and more regularly. Grass needed cutting. Shop was never open. No communication or presence from owner throughout our stay. Worst chemical disposal I’ve used. At least four doors in the ladies showers were swollen and wouldn’t shut.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
