  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely clean bathroom and showers. Perfect. Lots of space. Four wash up areas.

Disliked No shelter for wash up areas for campers. Very hard to get pegs into ground. No three pin plugs for charging devices. Don't think there was WiFi.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked From the welcoming man at the reception, to the very clean toilet and shower block, to the food and drink trucks in the evening - this was a great spot!
It was the first time in our new van with EHU and everything worked a dream.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Love the open space, pop up food/drink outlets.
Friendly helpful owners, loads room plenty of fields to chose from along with amazing views. Helped the sunshine was out all weekend. Maybe need levelling ramps subject to choice of field .

Disliked Nothing, other than perhaps a shelf, seating or stool in the showers .

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Great site. Fantastic welcome from the owner. Quick explanation of how everything worked and we were sent off to find our preferred pitch from the 5 massive fields.

Loads of room and had the benefit of the Pizza Van, Beer/Gin Van and Greek Food Van on the Saturday night. Shower blocks and toilets were really clean.

It's a working farm so you'll hear cows and other animals which just added to the charm.

Great location... we'll be back!

Disliked Nothing - Great site.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The views as you approach the site, and once on it are amazing.

You get a warm and friendly welcome from the staff.

The shop and food options available on site mean you can either self-cater or enjoy what the site has to offer.

The toilets and showers are very nice too.

Disliked Nothing

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Hands down, one of the nicest sites I’ve ever been to!! The views are amazing, staff is welcoming and the idea of having food trucks was a great touch. Camp offers plenty of parking and pitch anywhere (non-electric). We were able to have a nice fire and not be disturbed at anytime and you can be as sociable or cut of as you want.
100% will be visiting again.

Disliked Showers have little to no pressure during peak times and some more sinks would be nice.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely spacious campsite with lots of food options, beautiful scenery and clean showers/bathrooms. I would definitely return. Great location from Bakewell also :)

Disliked Unfortunately, we did have quite a bit of noise from the campers next to us at night keeping us up, but this is no reflection on the campsite as it can’t be helped from their end!
The showers weren’t the best in terms of pressure but again wouldn’t stop me from coming back.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
