General

  • Peaceful woodland park 10 minutes' drive from Wokingham centre
  • An hour's drive from Oxford, the New Forest and the south coast
  • Next door to a lake and country park for fishing and walks

Settle in for a stay at Wokingham’s California Chalet and Touring Park and you’ll be in good historical company: the park’s location was once part of Windsor Forest and a fave hunting ground of the Tudor royals.

These days the five-acre site has been set up as a peaceful woodland park, with heaps of space for a quiet family break. Hunting is long gone, but neighbouring Longmoor Lake is a fab place for a spot of fishing: carp, pike, tench, roach and perch are up for grabs if you’ve got the relevant rod licence.

Also just next door is California Country Park, a 100-acre park with wildlife trails, a playground, picnic areas, paddling pool and a cosy café for daytime eats. For further foodie needs, a pub, chip shop and supermarket are a five-minute drive away.

If you’re looking to venture a little further afield, Wokingham’s well placed for exploring the attractions of Berkshire and beyond – with a drive of an hour or so you can be wandering around Oxford, spotting ponies in the New Forest or taking in the sea air on the south coast.

Facilities on site are kept minimal to preserve the peaceful vibe, but all the essentials are in place: a launderette, washing-up area and toilet block with accessible facilities, hot showers and useful bits and bobs like razor points.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Fishing is currently not possible onsite until July, due to the fish spawning.

    The site was beautiful. Lovely surroundings in the woodland with easy access to the country park. The site was clean as we're the facilities. It was quiet probably due to time of year. The camping pod fit us fine as we were visiting legoland so only used as a evening base, though they were more spacious than I thought. The four of us shared space without an issue.

    Cleanliness of site & bathing/ toilet facilities x being near to the lake and the country park was good for fishing and cycling. Really pleased with site as it was in beautiful surroundings and very quiet (until we arrived !!!)
    Hardly saw any other campers but arrival after hours was easy and electric gate meant site felt secure and you were safe x
    Remember to take hosepipe as it is a fully service site if you book that sort of pitch - we forgot ours 😩

Nice camp, needs improvement13/10/2019

  • Camping pod (two man)

  • Liked:

    The area, nice for dog walking although there was a lot of construction around. The pitches were also tidy and there was good lighting. Our pod was clean apart from the very old stinky nasty mattresses. The floor was cleaner than the mattresses so we slept on the floor.

    Disliked:

    disgusting mattresses, completely ruined the lovely pod. No hot water in the morning jn the ladies showers and no caretaker seemed to be around. Shame for £100 we paid and shame as the camp was not bad overall. There was also people who seemed to stay there long term shouting.

    Very well organised with spacious gravel pitches;
    Lots of walking paths around and beautiful surroundings with the lake and coffee by the lake;
    Late arrivals well planned so we could get our pitch information even after the reception opening hours.

    Disliked:

    Ladies toilets were without hot water for the full weekend! Not something that you would expect in a pricey camping site...
    Toilets could be more clean.
    Reception/small market opening times are very limited considering the most campers would go for activities during the day.
    Paid wifi? in our days and for the price I would expect to have it for free...
