An enjoyable stay at a great site.

Sept 2026

Liked Super clean shower block looked like new. Very quiet and peaceful. Decent powerful push button showers. Elsan disposal was clean and tidy. Some might call this a bare bones site as there is just an amenity block and pitches, suited us perfectly. We parked our camper under the trees next to the road, it was so tranquil looking at the evening light filtering through the trees with the sound of Rooks croaking away and the scent of distant woodsmoke. Liked the cows over the road looking at us with their inquisitive nature. Easy to find and not miles of lanes to negotiate. A well kept site, the pride of the owners is evident in all things.

Disliked I would prefer to be able to adjust the shower temperature - they were a bit hot for me. My wife would have liked a shower head you could hand hold to direct the water, rather than a fixed one.

Cheap and cheerful. You get what you pay for.

Jun 2026

Liked Good price for pitch and electric hook up. Good shower if you can get in before others start using facilities and water pressure drops. Shower/WC block always clean and fresh smelling. Extensive tackle shop. Didn't fish here but it looked popular.

Disliked Many pitches on a gentle slope. Only one shower for gents and only one shower for ladies. Access track from main road to campsite very uneven and bumpy - even at the recommended 5mph.

Liked Ease of access and proximity to the inn. Food at the inn is fantastic. My wife & I had 2 courses each with 2 drinks each for about £70. Cooked to perfection and really tasty. A well varied menu, with several gluten free options.

Good for my purpose of a 1 night stop over.

Jul 2025

Liked Nicely maintained and pleasing surroundings. Ducks roam around. Clean facilities. Easy to find. Friendly and accommodating owner. Good price. Level pitches on short grass. No set pitches so go where you want.

Disliked The access track to the camping field has a 90 degree corner to get around with a 4ft drop to a stream opposite. No problem for most vehicles but I was quite concerned edging my 5.5m camper van around it. Once on the site the owner said i could leave by a different route, which was fine but it would have been nice to know about it on the way in. Sign says reception open 2 hrs. per day, but could not find it. No washing up facilities. Toilet cubicles very small. Quite noisy after dark but that may have been just that night.

Some shortcomings but overall a good site

Dec 2020

Liked The shower rooms are excellent. Big, clean and bright, with a sink, radiator and loo. Wetroom style with push button shower. Finish and decor are first class. The pub across the road looked good, although we did not use it. Farm shop on site.

Disliked Although the shower rooms are excellent, you cannot change the water temperature. Not really a problem but would like the option. The showers are the fixed shower head type. I prefer a shower head I can move around or hand hold. Communal dish washing sink is open air, but under cover. A long trough type sink with 4 sets of taps. My washing up bowl would not fit in the sink. Would like to see a coin operated tumble dryer as when its raining there is no way to dry wet towels. Pitches are good but a little narrow.

Excellent campsite with good facilities

Sept 2020

Liked Free showers and WC's really good. Shower cubicles with folding glass doors just like you'd find at home. Showers had long reach hoses so you are able to direct the water spray. Lights controlled by motion sensors which are inside the shower areas, not outside (like I experienced at a different campsite recently). Covered dish washing area with hot water was very good, would like to have somewhere to put wet dishes to drip. 2 ingenious sinks but only 1 plug. There were 4 plug sockets here but did not know if they are active and available for use. We had takeaway chips from the pub which were really good, Also having the pub on site was great.

Disliked Our only dislike was the annoyingly loud live music in the pub, we could hardly hear each other and we were nearly as far away from the music as possible. Would have stayed for more drinks if it was quieter!

This could be so much better

Sept 2020

Liked The layout of the campsite is good, with amenities only a short walk away. Supermarkets and take away's only a short drive away. Well sited to explore the forest of Dean.

Disliked We did not like the showers so much. The cubicles were big enough, but with the shower head fixed on the ceiling, all of the floor gets wet, so there is nowhere dry to get dressed. Being a unisex shower block I didn't want to emerge in a partially clothed state. Also the light tended to time out before I was finished. We stayed for 4 nights, and on the 3rd day we wanted a nice relaxing day at the camp site, watching movies in our van and cooking. This was fine until the woman on the ride on grass mower appeared to cut the already very short grass. She was driving right up to our van and making a lot of noise, which we thought was a bit inconsiderate. This went on for a good 45 mins. I had a bit of a walk about afterwards and couldn't find any grass clippings. There is a big sign by the washing up sinks stating "Respect other peoples privacy". There were no menus from local pubs or takeaways available. Due to Covid they had disabled the hair dryer in the shower block, which did not affect us as we had our own to run off our elec hook up, but I did see a couple of women camping in tents with no apparent way of drying wet hair.

From the manager: Really sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay.. unfortunately the reason the grass didn’t look too long was that it is mowed regularly.. I do it at that time as departures are by 11am and arrivals are after 2pm and most people are out and I only have a 3 hour window to clean, recycle & tidy the site.. this includes mowing. We have had people staying everyday since we opened so there is always someone on the site when we mow.. I don’t do it early in the morning or late in the evening as I wouldn’t want to disturb anyone’s sleep .. unfortunately there isn’t any other time to do it. As for local menus the pubs change their menus regularly so any menu we keep may well be out of date quite quickly.. also within a 5 mile radius there is in excess of 20 takeaways & pubs.. quite a lot of menus to display .. but there are signs up telling people where they are & we are always happy to discuss what is on offer near us.. Most people manage very well in the showers.. sorry you couldn’t. Also, you are quite right when you say the hairdryer was disabled due to Covid.. but that is due to government guidelines and as it didn’t affect you I’m not sure why you were so bothered about it.. no one else has complained.. even the ladies with the wet hair ! But thank you so much for your feedback 😁
