General

  • Clean, spacious and well-maintained site on a working dairy farm
  • Four miles from Helston with easy access to the Lizard Peninsula
  • Friendly helpful owners

Clean, quiet and in a lovely location on a dairy farm close to the Cornish coast are the boxes firmly ticked for Skyburriowe Farm House, a small and very friendly farm site at Garras on the knockout Lizard Peninsula.

Show up here in spring for expanses of bluebells and hedgerows filled with common and not so common flowers; in autumn for clifftop walks followed by forays to the local restaurants and pubs (pasties are very warming), and in summer for boat trips, fishing, surfing and looking out for migrating basking sharks and orcas: the nearest beach is only a couple of miles away.

The well-spaced site at Skyburriowe Farm is in a lawned meadow bordered by a line of trees home to a variety of local wildlife, and has free wifi, chemical disposal and amenities (toilets and showers, separate family/disabled room, laundry sinks and a utility room with fridge, freezer and sinks) kept to high standards by owners Vivian and Brenda.

Barbecues are allowed on site, and a food shop, pub and restaurant are within a couple of miles. Whichever foodie option you pick, remember to leave room for some homemade cake, made freshly on site for campers' convenience… you'll probably want to tick that box too.

Excellent facilities, always kept spotless and well managed.
Extremely friendly site due to the hard working owners who are very kind and layed back but are always available to give help and advice with their extensive local knowledge.
Good quality freshly grown vegetables were available on site.
Location of this site is ideal and conveniently placed for all the Lizard and the far South West.
    A perfect holiday, thank you!

Many things have been listed by other people already.
Let's highlight some of the things we appreciated very much:
    - Viviane and his wife are extremely friendly and helpful; always available! They arranged travel schedules for our cycling trips to Lizard point and Gweek!
    - Location: 8 miles from Lizard point, 5 miles from Helston; St. Michael Mount is only a 45 min drive!
    - Site: clean and tidy with good pitches, lovely quite area not overrun with other campers, very peaceful; pitches are easily accessable
    - Facilities: modern & clean shower block and toilets!
    - Top Highlight: Viviane and his son showed our children to the cows and the milking machines which was big big fun for the children. Strongly recommended for families!

Location - within 10 minutes drive to fab coast line and 8 miles from Lizard point. Site - clean and tidy with good pitches (which we could choose) Our pitch - we stayed in the paddock (not main field) just down from facilities - lovely quite area not overrun with other campers and was lovely hearing the birds in the morning and evening. Facilities were cleaned everyday and were better than anticipated. Yes they could be updated but they are functional and more than adequate. Not having very good wifi/signal meant we had to switch off from the 'modern world' and it was a welcome break!

Lovely clean field (except dog mess), toilets and showers. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Dogs being walked in camping field and children ending up covered in dog mess due to inconsiderate owners not picking up. We had a sloping pitch which made a great roll together at bed time.

Lovely peaceful campsite, clean shower block with nice hot water. Close to beaches and supermarkets etc.

Easy access - we have a twin axle caravan and had no issues with roads being too narrow. The last little bit where you fork right is single track but good visibility and only for a very short stretch before it opens out again at the farm yard and entrance to the site.

From Truro take the A39 and then A394 south to Helston. At the end of RNAS Culdrose Air Station there is a small roundabout. Local attractions

To the beach first – this is the Lizard Peninsula after all, and highly scenic sands and cliffs are within easy reach including very special Kennack Sands four and a half miles from base.

The Lizard is the most popular part of the South West Coast Path and you should hike at least some of it while you're in the region, to see rare plants, coastal birds and possible marine mammals in the water below. From Helston, hikers can ramble the ten miles to Falmouth via the Helford River, Pendennis Castle and fab River Fal views.

Plenty of popular Cornish attractions are easy to get to from Skyburriowe Farm House, like the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and Flambards theme park at Helston, the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth and the swish Tate gallery at swish arty town St Ives. The Eden Project near St Austell is about an hour's drive to the north-east.

Also near St Austell, the Lost Gardens of Heligan are a splendidly different day out; greenery fans who don't want to drive too far can also mosey around Trebah and Glendurgan gardens, both near Falmouth, or the National Trust's Trengwainton Gardens at Penzance about half an hour's drive from Helston.

Must see

  • National Seal Sanctuary (2.5 miles)
  • Flambards (2.9 miles)
  • Trebah Garden (5.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool (3.9 miles)
