Skyburriowe Farm House: Non-electric tent field

General

  • Clean, spacious and well-maintained site on a working dairy farm
  • Four miles from Helston with easy access to the Lizard Peninsula
  • Pitches in a lawned meadow bordered by a line of trees

Clean, quiet and in a lovely location on a dairy farm close to the Cornish coast are the boxes firmly ticked for Skyburriowe Farm House, a small and very friendly farm site at Garras on the knockout Lizard Peninsula.

Show up here in spring for expanses of bluebells as well as hedgerows filled with common and not so common flowers; in autumn for clifftop walks followed by forays to the local restaurants and pubs (pasties are very warming), and in summer for boat trips, fishing, surfing and looking out for migrating basking sharks and orcas: the nearest beach is only a couple of miles away.

The well-spaced site at Skyburriowe Farm is in a lawned meadow bordered by a line of trees home to a variety of local wildlife, and has free wifi, chemical disposal and amenities (toilets and showers, separate family/disabled room, laundry sinks and a utility room with fridge, freezer and sinks) kept to high standards by owners Vivian and Brenda.

Barbecues are allowed on site, and a food shop, pub and restaurant are within a couple of miles.

AA 3 pennants

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

This was our fifth stay at Skyburriowe and again it did not disappoint. The pitches are spacious, the facilities are immaculate and the owners are so friendly and helpful. We absolutely adore this site and it’s beautiful surroundings and cannot imagine staying anywhere else.

The facilities are incredible. They are cleaned regularly throughout the day and are beautifully kept. The utility room has a vast choice of local activities and helpful information, plus the handmade jams and produce is a really fab finishing touch!

I recommend this site to everyone I speak to and it holds a very special place in our hearts for our family camping trip. We always meet the loveliest people here and have never had any issues or complaints during any of our stays. We have stayed at several campsites over the years, but this by far is the one that we always keep returning to and look forward to every year.

The owners do an incredible job and deserve nothing but praise for what they provide. Thank you for another fabulous stay and cannot wait until our return next year.

Great, quiet location; the site had great facilities and amenities - showers were always hot and the toilets clean. Never seen such a star-filled night sky and with no light pollution, it was completely mindblowing! Kids loved the open space to run around.

    Disliked:

Some inconsiderate neighbours blaring out music very late at night.

Great size pitch, owners were very friendly. Good location for exploring the area, just make sure you’re prepared as there aren’t any amenities close by.
It is located near an airfield which we enjoyed watching the helicopters but could be a problem to some.

    Disliked:

Toilet and shower facilities were not very clean. Guests were loud until late at night.
Wi-Fi kept dropping out and signal in the area was poor so bare that in mind if you need signal.

Perfect location to explore Cornwall. Close to Lizard and shops. Site is large enough and kept well maintained. Plus it wasn’t too crowded, plenty of empty spaces what gave us more of the quiet time. Toilets block clean, very good utility room with 2 fridges to use if staying on non electric pitch. Farm shop on site with fresh veggies, jams and eggs.
Site is on the farm with some farm smells but very rarely and not as bad as you might think. That’s why it’s not on ‘dislike’.

    Disliked:

    Nothing, one of the best.

Local attractions

To the beach first – this is the Lizard Peninsula after all, and highly scenic sands and cliffs are within easy reach including the very special Kennack Sands four and a half miles from base.

The Lizard is the most popular part of the South West Coast Path and you should hike at least some of it while you're in the region, to see rare plants, coastal birds, and possible marine mammals in the water below. From Helston, hikers can ramble the ten miles to Falmouth via the Helford River, Pendennis Castle and fab River Fal views.

Plenty of popular Cornish attractions are easy to get to from Skyburriowe Farm House, like the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and Flambards theme park at Helston, the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth and the swish Tate gallery at swish arty town St Ives. The Eden Project near St Austell is about an hour's drive to the north east.

Also near St Austell, the Lost Gardens of Heligan are a splendidly different day out; greenery fans who don't want to drive too far can also mosey around Trebah and Glendurgan gardens, both near Falmouth, or the National Trust's Trengwainton Gardens at Penzance about half an hour's drive from Helston.

Must see

  • National Seal Sanctuary (2.4 miles)
