Beautiful location in rural setting. Pub right opposite, so for rainy days (and there was a lot of rain!), it was perfect. Good selection of family board games to entertain the kids!

Carol, the owner, was really helpful and friendly. Farm shop on site, was sadly lacking freshly baked bread that is detailed on the website, but you could get the essentials.

The Owner kindly contacted us in advance to say that she might not be there to greet us when we arrived and left a message advising us where to park in the site to avoid the damper lower lying pitches.Shortly after our arrival she came to see us. She was friendly and helpful and gave us some useful local information.
The water, electric power and wifi facilities on the hard standing pitch were good.
The new shower block is very smart and warm.
The pub immediately next to the site was friendly and served good food.

    Disliked:

Neither we nor the other couple on the site could get the showers warm. This seemed odd because there was plenty of hot water for washing dishes (for which there were good facilities) and in the toilet sinks.

I'm not sure how frequently the toilet/wet rooms are cleaned but they didn't appear to have been cleaned thus morning so mud from campsite was still in the shower/toilets and one of the toilets had run out of paper towels.

It may simply be that this was very much the low season for the site ( it was below zero on the two nights that we stayed). Clearly a lot of money has been spent on making it a smart modern facility for campers and we would gladly stay again in future.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and we are pleased that you like the site. Really sorry to hear that the water was not hot in the showers though and we will obviously get hold of the plumber to rectify this. Also just to reassure you that the shower block is cleaned and serviced daily when we have guests staying. Hope to see you again soon.

New Shower & Toilet Block, Good Wi-Fi

    Disliked:

We read about the warm welcome others had been given, and although our welcome wasn't 'un-warm', it wasn't what I'd call warm either. One morning when a lad who I assume was a son, was helping someone get their motorhome off one of the pitches after it got stuck in the mud, I went over but was totally blanked - he never acknowledged me in any way, which I found quite uncomfortable.
We left three days early because the weather had been so bad and more winds were promised, but when my wife went to tell them we were going, she couldn't find anyone to speak to.
The description on the Pitchup site implies that the caravan hardstanding pitches are serviced - it says "Drainage Hook-up - Yes, "Water Hook-up - Yes", but this is not the case. You have to collect water and empty your waste water container daily, and this was a major downside for us. Also the 'Hardstanding' was not what we usually expect - instead of shale/chippings/gravel etc., it was concrete type blocks on the ground with the grass growing through, and only wide enough to put the caravan on. When we booked hardstanding, as we were staying in December, we thought that the hardstanding would be large enough to park the caravan and put the awning on - it wasn't, with the result that the awning mat became a mud bath.
There was no indication of where the promised 'walks' were, and no idea where we could or couldn't walk the dog - surely this information could be placed on or around the shower block.
The Shower block is very good but the rain shower isn't to everyone's liking because my wife didn't want to get her hair wet every day - an adjustable shower head would be better, and personally I would have a partition of some kind in the shower area, so that water from the shower doesn't wet the whole floor every time someone takes a shower, especially as you have to go into the shower rooms to use the toilets.
There was a dustbin marked 'Dry Waste' which probably everyone else understands, but I'm afraid that I didn't. Do bottles go in dry waste, etc. etc.? Perhaps a better labeling system and more bins to help recycling may be an idea.
In fairness to the site, we did have some horrendous weather which aggravated the mud problem, but if you're going to open over Christmas and the New Year, the facilities need to be of sufficient standard to cope, otherwise perhaps it's best to close until the better weather arrives in the Spring.
We won't be staying again, mainly because at our age we like fully serviced sites.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. Whilst we are obviously concerned that your camping experience was not all you hoped at Brewery Farm, we would like to try to reassure you that improvements are constantly being done here and we take all comments seriously. As you rightly say the weather was horrendous over Christmas and New year and the motor home was stuck and my son was trying to help the other camping guest at the time. The shower block is brand new so it is interesting to get feed back about that. I have asked Pitchup on more than one occasion to alter the way the site is advertised and they assured me that ours is not advertised with fully serviced pitches. I will check this again.
We do have lovely walks in this area and I would have been pleased to point you towards them if you had come to the house to enquire. We will consider somehow having more information by the shower block next season.

Simple site. Near to pub which was better than views suggested.

    Disliked:

Only 1 of the 3 wetrooms availiable.
Rain shower means it’s imposdible to keep hair dry but no hairdryers or plug sockets.
Wetroom not cleaned for the two days we were there.
Limited info on area from site.

From the manager...

Hi Victoria - Thank you for your feed back and we are glad you like the site. We will certainly think about the rain shower & hair dryers. You will appreciate that it is a brand new block so not everything may have been thought of straight away. There were actually two rooms in use as the other guests are staying for a longer period and are using the second room. We will certainly look into finding a way of supplying more information about the area.

Very welcoming and friendly site, views were fantastic! Shower block and washing up area new and excellent, spotless! Dog walking field right next door where they can run and run. So many footpaths made walking really enjoyable, wore the dog out! Very well stocked shop on site plus a post office. A pub/restaurant opposite, reasonable and good food and friendly staff. If you want to go further you do need a car but if like us you want a few days away from it all then this site is perfect - very relaxing and chilled out stay. Don't forget your torch! Will definitely go back at different times of the year!
