Liked: Very friendly and obliging owner who went out her way to help us with a water pump problem. Lovely onsite café and farm shop and quiet atmosphere. A short distance from Bude with shops and from Boscastle and Tintagel.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: I like there was plenty of space on the grounds and had our own tap to fill water up and electric point also walking distance to the nearest pub where we could go as a family to eat if you wanted to eat out.

Disliked: I hadn’t been to hop farm in years so when I looked up the site with the attached link on YouTube it showed in the video that it was still a functioning farm with animals and play area and it didn’t state that the hop farm it’s self was actually SHUT DOWN months ago which was disappointing for the kids so there was not much to do! And when I had asked at reception about how to get into the farm he said that it was shut! Which I was then confused as it was advertised as operating still which he told me it weren’t. Why else would I of booked it

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Was good place until that day.

Disliked: A lot of drunk people, very big companies. During evening many drunk drivers fly on cars on the field. Not safe. Very dirty around. Very like that place, but that day was nightmare.

From the manager: I am sorry that you did not enjoy your Saturday night stay this time. We came out on the Friday night at 10pm and confiscated a set of car keys and at mid-night and 130am due to noisy party goers. We did not receive any calls on the Saturday so did not come out after our 10pm checks. We did ask several guests who had been disturbed on the Friday night on that particular field how Saturday night was and they all reported it had been quiet. If you have any issues or concerns whilst staying here during future visits please report them straight away. Hopefully your next visit will be problem free.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: A warm welcome at reception.

Disliked: The website gave the wrong impression of the site. The Oast house village had been locked up for a long time and we had been keen to see this. The showers in the extra block were dirty and blocked. The showers in the main block were so badly designed. If you hung your clothes/towel on the door, they were soaked. We won’t be visiting again!

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Not far from toilets

Disliked: Toilets was dirty most of them was blocked and unused able showers was dirty. And where our pitch was there was a very horrible smell as the chemical waste unit was near and the sun didn't help with the smell.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. There were some guests staying (they will not be coming back) who were disrespectful towards the facilities which made it impossible to keep clean in-between the 3 daily cleans. We do have to provide a chemical waste point for caravans and motorhomes and during hot weather the smell can at times be a little overpowering. If you would like to try another stay here we will be happy to welcome you.

Local attractions

Once the kids let you off site, Kent (aka The Garden of England) has beaches, historic towns, forests and more castles, stately homes (and gardens) open to the public than anywhere else in the country. If this isn't enough, Paddock Wood railway station is five minutes’ drive from The Hop Farm for a train to London, less than an hour away. Dover is within 60 miles for a day trip to France. Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with Blue Flag beaches, watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Eight of the 11 Blue Flaggers are in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs; Whitstable and Herne Bay are also popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Howletts Wild Animal Park at Canterbury has the biggest group of looked-after gorillas in the world and experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
