What customers say

Spacious grounds perfect for groups/families, with a lovely riverside spot for water activities. Friendly staff, generally clean facilities (though some note they're basic/could use upgrades & get messy when busy). Some road/camper noise reported.

Liked I had my wedding next door at the shires oast, so I used little bell tent Hotel to pitch me 6 tents and I brought my motorhome and a few others pitched their own tents. We had two night here, first night campfire and second was the wedding next door and both was amazing! Sue in the office was amazing from booking start to finish. She has been helpful with putting my our separate bookings together and my constant emails getting it all sorted! Would highly recommend!

Disliked Nothing

Powered grass campsite

Liked Only thing good was that it was close to where we wanted to be. Not sure how this place got a 4 star rating- that must be years old.

Disliked Everything is the best description I can give. From arrival onwards this site does not know what it is suppose to be. First all you see are trucks full off cars, an outdoor car wash and cordoned off fields, follow the road and you come to a reception barrier. Staff were prepared for sign in, so that was okay but there was a big warning sign when I was asked if we are part of the wedding party. No we were not but there was a group of around 20-24 people in a couple of bell tents set up just in front of us. Why we were placed behind a big group I can't understand as there were plenty of other empty pitches on other camping fields. But no, we were right behind the biggest group. First night, the noise continued and increased due to drinking to well past midnight, although to rules stated quiet time is from 10 pm onwards and started again from 7.30 am on when they prepared breakfast... Toilet/ shower facilities- never seen anything so dirty. We were given codes to access the facilities but the lock to the Women's block is broken, door permanently open. When I first checked it out, I noticed mud, leaves and dry dirt around the entrance which was still there when we left 2 days later, I didn't notice anyone cleaning the toilet/ shower facilities in the time we were there or saw anything different between morning to ev, same dirt was still there. No privacy to wash yourself, all open space and with an unlocked door I didn't feel comfortable to go there to wash. Showers- even worse. You open the door and you are in the shower, no space to put up your clothes or towel yo keep them dry unless you leave everything outside on the hooks - not an option for me - again unlocked door one reason but I really don't think leaving my clothes outside is appropriate nowadays.
Camping field - that's what it was a field with a trail track for cars/ caravan or motorhome to go around and then done waterpoints and electricity hook ups, grass not even mowed.

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay the weekend of the 12th September.
The car transporters, car wash and car boot field(also used for hot air ballooning) are before you enter the campsite.
As you had put on your booking form that you wanted to be close to the facilities C field where you were is the best option, however had you asked to move to either a non-electric field or the other electric field (which is prone to flooding) when you looked at your pitch we would have happily moved you.
There were 6 bell tents on the electric pitches and 2 motorhomes on the hard standing with electric pitches where the bride and groom were staying.
There were checks at 10pm and no music or loud noise could be heard, had we been notified there was a disturbance after this time we would have come out, our mobile number is printed on the front of all check-in cards.
As there had been a lot of rain, the facilities which had 2 daily cleans, the floors will become muddy due to constant use.
Every shower and toilet has a lock with a hook on the inside and outside for hanging clothes and towels.
The grass was cut on the 28th August but unfortunately not since due to the wet weather we have been experiencing.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Beautiful site, lovely to walk around and walk along the river
Water point right by the pitch
We were near the facilities but the site is so vast, a lot of people were driving from their pitches to the toilets etc.

Disliked Our pitch was next to the path which in itself was fine, but the EHU point for our pitch was on the other side of the path so our cable was on the path. This upset a couple of people.

I will pass on your comment re the electric point and cable to the manager and seif it is possible to change this.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked 99.9% of the place

Disliked The large family opposite our patch was quite disrespectful with noise talking like it was 12 o’clock in the afternoon when in fact it was gone 1am was meant to be a child’s birthday party but turned out to be more for them to have a party

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and that you enjoyed yourselves despite the loud talking, unfortunately some people do not realise how far noise can travel in an open field.
We look forward to your next visit with quieter neighbours.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked A HUGE site so didn’t feel too crowded. Great for group gatherings and free and easy launch access to the river for SUP, kayaking or a dip.
Good position for visiting local sites of interest.
Toilets/showers were clean and pleasant to use. I had EHU and water on pitch.

Disliked Not a dislike but for awareness, a longer than average EHU lead may be needed - I had to park “badly” half on grass and gravel to attach mine 😂.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and that you enjoyed yourself.
I will check the length of cable required as on Pitchup it says "a cable measuring at least 5 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups " and if a longer length required this can be amended.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Liked Fields were well cut and mostly flat. Toilet block and showers were clean.

Disliked Driving between fields, ie the Americana field had very deep potholes full of rainwater. None too pleasing when my new vehicle had only just been purchased the day before. Had the potholes not been there I could have used my mobility scooter to access the toilets etc.

Local attractions

Once the kids let you off site, Kent (aka The Garden of England) has beaches, historic towns, forests and more castles, stately homes (and gardens) open to the public than anywhere else in the country. If this isn't enough, Paddock Wood railway station is five minutes’ drive from The Hop Farm for a train to London, less than an hour away. Dover is within 60 miles for a day trip to France. Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with Blue Flag beaches, watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Eight of the 11 Blue Flaggers are in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs; Whitstable and Herne Bay are also popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Howletts Wild Animal Park at Canterbury has the biggest group of looked-after gorillas in the world and experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
