Acres of private fields for you to camp on at the hop farm
Camping by the woodland

  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

This large, spacious campsite gets praise for its roominess, river access, and friendly staff. Reviewers love the clean facilities and peaceful vibe, especially in non-electric spots. Some note the distance to restrooms from certain sites and occasional shower issues during busy periods. Onsite kids' entertainment is missing, but the river and open areas offer plenty of playtime.

Unfortunately the family farm, park, museums and Oast houses were permanently closed in March 2023.
We hope to see you again, perhaps you could bring some indoor and outdoor games for you and the family to enjoy together.

Liked The staff was friendly on reception. Think he was trying to be funny, but the rapport wasnt there..not his fault.
Paddleboaridng onsite. Did the family 10am sunday session. The instructor was very patient, and very good with teaching a kid. He was excellent.

Disliked The people near our tent let their kids play until 10pm. Then talked really loudly.

You made me laugh about Tim on reception, he does try his best.
Some people do not understand that noise carries and that neighbours do not want to listen to them.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

A nice campsite overall, but clearer rules about appropriate toilet.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We stayed for one night and overall the campsite itself was nice. The grounds were pleasant and the location was good. Our stay would have been enjoyable if it wasn’t for the behaviour of the people camping next to us.

Disliked Unfortunately, the people staying in the tent next to us repeatedly used the bushes right beside our tent as a toilet. We challenged them and politely explained that they shouldn’t be doing this, particularly so close to other people’s tents. Their response was, “It’s a public place.” We replied that while it may be a public place, it certainly isn’t a public toilet, especially when proper toilet facilities are provided on the campsite.

It was extremely unpleasant, unhygienic and disrespectful to other campers. Unfortunately, some people seem to lack basic understanding and consideration for others.

I would strongly suggest that the campsite management put up clear signs around the camping areas stating that bushes must not be used as toilets and that the provided toilet facilities must be used. It may sound like something that shouldn’t need to be explained, but based on our experience, apparently it does.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay here and that you will visit again despite the people next to you.
I wish you had called us on the mobile number provided as that sort of behaviour is classed as indecent exposure. I hope your young teenage children did not witness this.
We look forward to seeing you again and hopefully people like the ones staying next to you do not come here.

Disliked There should be a warning around about the water as the children got very sick from going in when using paddle boards.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Excellent camp site. Electric hook up field quite small and would be better if more spread out. This site would be fantastic if you don’t need water and electric hook up as so much space and choice in the fields. Close to the river Medway with direct access for paddleboading and kayaking etc. staff in the office were friendly. The site would benefit from maybe a couple of food trucks coming onsite for options for the campers.

Disliked Not many facilities for food and drink or activities

Primitive grass campsite

Liked So much space!! We camped in a group with other families and was still a long way from anyone else. Being right on the river is a dream. Paddle boards and kayaks used all weekend and even the dog got in.

Disliked Only one toilet block near the entrance means a lot of campers drive to and from multiple times per day making the site quite busy at times.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and that you enjoyed yourselves.
There are 2 toilets and shower blocks, however they are next to each other and It is advisable to bring a toilet tent if you want to be further away from the toilets.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
