  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

Guests love the open spaces and choice of pitches. River access is a plus. Facilities are clean and adequate, if basic. Staff are friendly. Some note distance to facilities, noise from campers/traffic. It's a large, natural site.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Fully serviced, large pitches.
Toilet & shower block was clean whenever I used it.

Disliked Shower cubicles very small. Only one hook & everything gets wet.
Didn't see a shop, bar or restaurant as advertised on the site.
Sadly blue/green algae prevented use of the river, one of my main reasons for booking 😥

Primitive grass campsite

Liked I loved how you could just find a spot and set up camp. I was able to take my dogs, and have just a quiet and relaxed evening.

Disliked Ban for grill and fire pit

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
Due to the very hot weather and the grass being like straw we have banned fires and barbeques except for gas barbeques and disposable barbeques raised off the ground as these go out after just over an hour, we still ask that water is kept next to them and not left unattended. This is for everyone's safety as fires spread quickly without warning and on a campsite this would be a disaster. The ban will remain in place until we get enough rain to make it safe again.
There may be other campsites in the area that allow fires for you to go to if this is important during very hot weather with evening and night temperatures still over 20 degrees.
We look forward to seeing you next year, hopefully the summer will not be as extreme as this one.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Shower and bathroom Facilities were adequate and close by.

Disliked We felt hemmed in, other campers were too close. Given the size it would have been much better to give more space. Some of the advertised facilities were not there or been abandoned years ago.
The river could only be accessed by driving, it is inconceivable to walk kayak that distance from the elec pitch to the river.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You were given a 4 pitch area to yourself which left 3 empty pitches next to you.
I am not sure where you saw facilities as the ones advertised on Pitch-up are correct and on The Hop Farm Website there is nothing advertised apart from the car boots.
You can either walk or drive to the river, some guests on the electric pitches choose to walk others to drive. Many guests prefer to stay in the fields and have power packs or foldable solar panels as there is much more space.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked I like everything about this campsite but most of all the shear size
I like to be out the way of everyone which is easy here
Been here before and will keep coming back lovely campsite
My 2 kids and dog love it with the space and surroundings, mix of feild and woods.
The fields are always well maintained and everywhere is tidy, sitting out through the night feels like a proper wild camp without being surrounded by a load of other tents.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review. There are 2 blocks of showers and toilets with both being open on a weekend.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
