What customers say
Spacious campsite with river access, great for water sports & dog walks. Staff generally friendly, facilities clean. Electric pitches are tight; non-electric offer privacy. Some noise from campers/roads noted.

Average at best on the electric hookup field.
Powered grass campsite
Liked Easy to find, very helpful lady on checkin.
Disliked Arrived on a Sunday, the toilet/shower block was in a state... Strong smell of urine and dirty. It was cleaned the next morning and fine after that. The electric hookup pitches for tents was very cramped and everyone on top of each other. The pitch next to us had a caravan on it with an abandoned car parked next to it...
The key is to book a non electric pitch as there was loads of open fields and space. Of we stay there again that's what we would do. That would be a more positive experience.

The toilets and showers had 3 daily cleans we do ask guests to tidy up after themselves unfortunately not everyone does this.
The long stay guest next to you was away for a couple of days in his own car and the one left behind belongs to his elderly mother who is unable to drive at the moment.
We look forward to seeing you again, bring a toilet tent if you want to be in one of the fields further away from the facilities.
Promised much, delivered little

Liked It’s a big site if you’re off grid camping
Disliked This place promises a lot, but delivers very little. We’ve stayed at many sites across the country and unfortunately, this was probably one of the worst we’ve stayed experienced
First impressions weren’t great. Reception was dowdy, the welcome completely lacking in personality, and the so-called shop was barely worthy of the description. Sadly, things didn’t improve from there.
The river was one of the main things that attracted us, particularly as the site is advertised as having a river running through it. Technically it may do, but the main field is so far away that you realistically needed to drive to it. Definitely not the riverside camping experience the description suggests.
The shower facilities were another low point. The cubicles were postage-stamp sized, with nowhere sensible to get changed privately. You were effectively expected to shower in the tiny cubicle and then dry and get dressed in a communal changing area. Not something I’d expect from a campsite of this size.
The whole place felt sprawling, unloved, dowdy, with very little to no atmosphere.
If you’re off grid, the one positive is its sheer size. If you want to disappear into a field away from everyone, you could probably find a very isolated position and be perfectly happy, but you’d need to drive to use the facilities. We walked around the perimeter one day and found a few feasible human turds!
For us, it promised considerably more than it delivered. We left wondering how somewhere that sounded so good on paper could feel quite so disappointing in reality. No farm, no shop, no restaurant (closing down). We certainly wouldn’t return.

From the manager: There were 100 pitches checking in along with yourselves and only 1 person on reception which makes welcoming each individual very difficult when guests become impatient waiting in a queue.
From your pitch to the river is approximately a 6 minute walk or you can drive if you prefer. The grass looks unloved at the moment due to the lack of rain, little to no atmosphere is what each guests brings with them, couples and families enjoying each others company, perhaps you mean a club house would improve the atmosphere for you.
Many guests bring their own facilities to avoid a long walk or a drive to the toilets, I am surprised you found a few feasible human turds as none have ever been found by any staff including maintenance(a phone call to reception would have been able to identify any findings).
There are 2 toilet and shower blocks, in the larger one there is 1 hook on the inside of the showers for towels (shampoo etc.. would have to be placed on the floor as shelves would reduce the amount of space and 1 hook on the outside to hang clothes or a bag on. The other block has a changing area inside each shower.
When you look to book through Pitch-up it says the farm and park is closed,it is a small shop within the office for basics, drinks, ice-creams etc. The Brewers Fayre is not closing it is due to have new owners, there is a seafood stall and a Chinese restaurant opening soon plus local takeaways deliver to the touring barrier.
I bottled it!

Liked I didn't go.
Disliked I booked this site without checking reviews.
The next day, I watched Bongo Bens review on U-tube which I found appalling, and decided I would forfeit the £124 that I had paid, rather than visit a site in such a squalid state.
You live and learn.
Obviously, I fidn't go, so make up your own minds.

From the manager: You should have checked the reviews, we have lots of returning guests and over the last four weekends have had over 1,000 pitches occupied.
We would like to add some clarity and balance to that particular video, which we have raised a dispute with on Youtube and it does not sound like you watched it in full as he contradicts what he first said.
Firstly the title is mis-leading. It is quite the opposite, we have official back-to-back annual awards for having the best reviews in county by leading booking platform Pitchup.com. The initial content of the video includes entering the main Hop Farm compound which is not open to the public and in the middle of refurbishment. An animal park isn’t a feature we advertise or promote, because we don’t have one. The reviewer was effectively trespassing in this area and gained access illegally.
Another area of the video was where he effectively searched for what might have been mess left by a camper, or pet, on one of the many fields we have. We pride our campsite on the cleanliness and our team regularly clean up any mess left by campers and their pets. The rest of the video is transparent and shows what a remarkably beautiful site we have. Nonetheless, the video is not a fair reflection.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and sharing your photos.
One of the fields has not been cut recently and due to the extreme dry conditions if cut with the tractor it would cause too much of a dust cloud.
The toilets and showers had 3 daily cleans, however in-between cleans the facilities can become messy, we do ask guests to tidy up after themselves unfortunately not everyone does this.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Liked Location is very good, great for walks
Disliked The condition of the pitches , size of the pitches and demarcation of each pitch. Nothing better than a farmers field
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: The electric pitches are small compared to non-electric and close together, as you were on non-electric you had a lot of space.
You are the first to say we are nothing better than a farmers field however you will recommend us and visit again.
We look forward to your next visit where you can enjoy the country and river walks and the Chinese restaurant located next to the exit barrier will be open.
