Acres of private fields for you to camp on at The Hop Farm
Camping by the woodland
EHU hardstanding pitch

  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

Spacious rural site with direct river access. Staff are friendly, facilities mostly clean. Some find amenities distant or campers noisy, but plenty of space and peace make it great for families & dogs.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Quite site, beautiful river nearby with access for canoeing and paddle boarding. Huge fields for off grid camping and Caravanning.

Disliked Toilet and shower facilities are tired and need a deep clean, chemical disposal point was really smelly. I’ve been to lots of sites and haven’t come across that before. No recycling facilities. Lots of long term residents which makes the touring area look cluttered and untidy. Didn’t see a member of staff on the site the whole time we were there, they stayed in the reception. Pitch was full of litter in the grass.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The toilets and showers are cleaned to a very high standard by our in-house cleaning ladies, in-between cleans the facilities can become messy, we do ask guests to tidy up after themselves unfortunately not everyone does this.
The chemical point will smell when it is being emptied, the wind may also have been blowing in the wrong direction.
The re-cycling is done by Biffa on collection rather than using separate bins.
The long term residents keep their pitches very tidy and do not leave litter lying around.
I either walk or drive around the site several times per day (except on my 2 days off) and litter pick after guests who are untidy as much as possible. We also come out at 10pm to do our nightly checks.

The Caravan and Camping site badge is on reception really!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Having water and electric, clean sinks.

Disliked Everything outdated. Floors dirty - nowhere in shower to put shower gel, scrunchie etc. Having to wash with one hand as showers cut off immediately if you remove hand from button on wall - I mean 0 seconds instant. Nowhere to sit down in shower to dress. Ladies standing naked outside shower to try and dry - as drying in shower meant standing on one leg - good balance required. Outlet drains smell - floor needs replacing with proper tiles - showers need replacing.
Washing area out in the elements no roof. People driving to the only shower block available. Lack of facilities ie fridge, washing machine, microwave, driers. Couldn't find cafe on site everything is run down and appears to have people working and staying on site overnight. No internet at all apparently too expensive to put in!

From the manager: The toilets and showers are cleaned to a very high standard and we get many compliments regarding this,in-between cleans the facilities can become messy, we do ask guests to tidy up after themselves unfortunately not everyone does this. The push buttons are set to the highest setting unfortunately they switch off after about 6 seconds. The smaller shower block has space inside for changing and the larger shower block has a hook on the inside of the showers for towels (shampoo etc.. would have to be placed on the floor as shelves would reduce the amount of room especially for mum`s who have young children with them) and 1 hook on the outside to hang clothes or a bag on.
When you look to book on Pitch-up we do not advertise as having any fridges, washing machines, driers, microwaves or Wi-Fi. The majority of people nowadays have data on their phones and do not require internet/Wi-Fi.
There is a Queensway pub and a Chinese restaurant on site and a seafood stall at weekends, local restaurants and take aways deliver to the touring barrier, menus on display in the reception/shop.

Liked Wide open space great for family get together.

Disliked Facilities are few and far between

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
The non-electric pitches are unmarked and guests choose where to stay when they have checked-in including near the river or the facilities. Many guests bring a toilet tent (no charge for this) to stay in the fields further away.
We look forward to seeing you again.

The push button on the showers are set to the longest amount of run time, however this is very short and frustrating for many guests.

Liked Lovely big field

Disliked No fridge/freezer for ice packs unless I wasn’t told. Would be a great addition but wouldn’t detract us from returning

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review as they do help people when deciding where to stay.
There is a very tiny freezer which only holds a dozen ice packs which is why we do not advertise it, perhaps in time the owners will provide a larger shop/office with freezers and more stock.
We look forward to your next visit.

Liked Pretty quiet and other friendly people to enjoy the weekend with

Disliked Said bar or clubhouse was on site, got to the site and pub was shut down, all the food at the front was shut except the Chinese restaurant, toilets were abit far away from where we were set up to camp

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The Brewers Fayres have all been sold which was reported on the news, Queensway have bought the one here however it needs renovating prior to opening.
There are menus stapled to the wall as you leave the office and also on display to take from restaurants and takeaways that deliver to the office barrier for guests who choose not to cook or have a night off from cooking. The seafood store was open from 10am until 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
Your pitch was approximately 25 to 30 metres away from your electric pitch.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
