Acres of private fields for you to camp on at The Hop Farm
Camping by the woodland

  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
The cleaner is very thorough and gets a lot of compliments, in-between cleans the facilities can become messy, we do ask guests to tidy up after themselves unfortunately not everyone does this.
For any issues whilst on site we ask guests to call us on the mobile number or visit us in the office, the lock was fixed as soon as we were notified.
We look forward to welcoming you again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Loads of space to camp away from others
Toilets clean and nice friendly welcome from staff

Disliked Not the site’s fault but we
Found rubbish and many tent pegs left in ground where we usually park up
Shame the site closed at end of October for non electric hook up bookings
We would love to camp over winter but do not need hook up

From the manager: Thank you for your loyalty in choosing to stay with us and that you enjoy your visits.
I do not work on a Wednesday or Thursday to help with the clearing of rubbish left behind and maintenance must have been busy elsewhere to check the fields, apologies for the litter left lying around.
It would be nice if one field could be available for winter use, however if there is a lot of rain some of the fields are at risk of flooding.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Liked So much space to camp out and lovely to have the river midway behind what was more a treat was being able to order takeaway to be delivered to the campsite. The facilities were very clean however, however, we liked the amount of space that was available to us.

Liked Enjoyed the river access for kayaking and fishing

Disliked Rubbish everywhere around the farm, toilet block always dirty, no hot water for shower or washing up.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: There are lots of bins around the site for guests to tidy up after themselves, we do come around tidying up during the day as much as possible.
The Sunday you were here the showers and toilets were cleaned continuously for 12 hours and on the Monday 3 times,in-between cleans the facilities can become messy, we do ask guests to tidy up after themselves unfortunately not everyone does this.
As soon as we were notified of there not being any hot water this was fixed.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Easy check in and no check out. Loads of space. I liked the ability to pitch where ever i wanted. I forgot the matches at home and the receptionist gave us a small box for free, which i really appreciated.

Disliked I think if it was busier then another toilet block would be needed in the other fields.

The campsite was full over the bank holiday weekend you were here, however with all of the fields open it does not look too busy.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Whitstable and Herne Bay are popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Try Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, home to gorillas and operating experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
