  • Spacious park spread across 500 acres of Kent countryside
  • Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London
  • Access to the River Medway for canoeing and fishing
Set in 500 acres of open fields and woodland, The Hop Farm is a huge site with plenty for guests to get stuck into. First of all, the river Medway flows through the park – so arrive by canoe if you like, or stick around on site for fishing and kayaking. Second, it has a friendly on-site pub with a nice and familiar menu full of pub classics. What else is there to like? Well, the site has a stunning backdrop of historic oast houses, the largest collection of Victorian-era oast houses in the world. It's easy to get to, being just a five-minute drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London. Local shops and amenities are five minutes away by car too. Kent (aka The Garden of England) has many beaches, historic towns, forests, castles and stately homes (and gardens). The very scenic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is 15 minutes' drive away from The Hop Farm. Tonbridge, a market town with a castle, shops and restaurants, is also 15 minutes away. The on-site facilities include a modern shower and toilet block. Dogs are welcome on site for an additional fee. You're welcome to bring your own barbecues and raised firepits to use here, as long as the ground conditions are good. The on-site shop also rents out firepits and stocks firewood (both are limited, so subject to availability).

What customers say

This spacious campground offers plenty of room and freedom, with many fields, including riverside sites. Guests praise the clean restrooms/showers, friendly staff, and the river's watersport potential. Some found electric sites crowded and noted occasional noise or cleanliness issues, but the overall experience is very positive, with many repeat visitors. Great location for exploring.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location was nice

Disliked Large groups of Eastern European’s congregating at river access making it hard to get paddle boards past. Then at night they got drunk playing load music and shouting until 2:00am

From the manager: I am sorry that a few people spoilt your 1 night stay.
I asked them several times to keep the river access clear. This area is on the map to keep clear( which everyone gets when checking in)and we also point this out.
I will ask the manager for more signs to be put up and if possible to fence off all of the access points to the river.
We were out from 10pm until 1130pm patrolling the site and asking guests playing music to turn it off and to adhere to the quiet policy between 10pm and 8am. We do not come out again unless we are called on the mobile number which is printed on the front of everyone`s check-in cards and explain it is for any issues whilst staying on site out when checking in. No-one called us on the Saturday night you were here therefore we were unaware of the disturbance.

Had a really nice stay and will return at a quiet time.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lots of space
Ability to pitch where you like and spread out (avoiding the water sport areas)
Peaceful, the field we were in didn’t have many other campers and there so many fields you could probably still find a quiet spot during busy times
I’d read reviews of people driving recklessly and other anti-social behaviour but we did not experience that at all
Seafood stall next door to the site was a great bonus
There was also a donut stall and Brewers Fayre next door too.
There was a pizza fan on the Friday and Saturday night (we didn’t use so cannot comment on the quality)
Waitrose close by is convenient

Disliked Lack of toilets compared to the size of the site. We stayed in the field nearest the toilet block, any other fields you would have to drive to the toilet/shower. I walked the dog to some of the other fields but reception told me some were a 30 min walk to the toilet. It doesn’t make sense that they don’t have some portable toilets in some of the other fields, that would make a huge difference.
When we visited it was relatively quiet, I cannot imagine how the site would cope with the small number of toilets at peak times.
Same with lack of water points although not as much of a problem if you have a large water carrier.
There are some picnic tables dotted around but all I saw were rotten and unusable. Replacing them feels like a quick win or removing them would improve things at the very least
The man on reception was not very helpful or welcoming when I first arrived so didn’t create a great first impression. My niece joined me later and her first comment was the same which is a shame.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Good atmosphere, large area where nobody is in anyone’s way. It’s a very relaxed site with a friendly crowd.
Management make a huge effort to keep the facilities clean, sadly some visitors haven’t been toilet trained and some even left litter behind. It was spotless when we arrived.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Powered grass campsite

Primitive grass campsite

Liked It’s great that you can camp up anywhere within the fields

It was quiet after 10pm

You are left alone to do as you please.

Disliked The camping fields are huge, however you have to be mindful that there are sporadic taps for water and all the bins are by the entrance
.
The toilet and shower block is also here so beware it’s a long walk if you choose a pitch further away and don’t have your own loo.
Waste disposal is also here.

The site feels unmonitored, vehicles drive around at high speed and three times we saw children riding around on top of van roofs, hanging onto the back of vehicles on their bikes and motorbikes zooming around the fields.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us over the weekend of the 26th June.
Two additional fields have bins, the rest are by the washing-up sinks. I have asked management if bins can be put in a couple of other fields on a Saturday morning during peak season.
I was out on-site quite a bit during the day Friday and Saturday dealing with guests who had no respect for either the campsite or other guests staying, this can be shown by the bad reviews submitted by the ones who had been asked several times to adhere to the campsite rules and to be considerate of everyone staying. We also do a patrol of the site at 10pm.
Hopefully your can visit during a quieter time as the campsite is very different then.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice and clean toilets and showers, acres of camping space, lovely and helpful people at reception.

Disliked slippery access to the river, would be nice to have a decent pontoon on each of the fields if possible. long long walk to the WC block

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
Apologies if we forgot to point out Oak Weir which is perfect for getting in and out of the river.
Depending on where you are pitching the facilities can be a long walk.
We look forward to your next visit.
