Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Site was peaceful and well kept. Toilets and showers were clean and recently installed.

Disliked Showers weren’t hot enough and on the last day were cold.

Sorry to hear you wouldn't plan to visit again or recommend us to your friends. The showers are being looked into by our plumber after comments over the weekend that they were cold, so we are trying to rectify this issue.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked My stay was really good. The immunities were fantastic very clean. The staff were very helpful very polite and all round great stay the location is fantastic as well right next to Bala lake and the price was very good too and it was a really good friendly environment with other campers would definitely recommend people to stay here. I will definitely come back.

Belle shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked We stayed in Belle shepherd's hut which was spacious and had everything you need for your stay.
It was clean and well presented. Hot tub was a bonus.

Disliked Would have preferred a little.more privacy around hot tub area as it felt a little overlooked.Also the jet was a tad too powerful and was located right behind seated area. Turned it down but was hardly noticeable and ineffective. BED WAS A BIT HARD FOR MY LIKING.

Liked We had a great time ! Close to the lake to enjoy the water sports and also relaxing taking in the scenery.
The site was beautiful and very well maintained. The facilities were clean and in good working order and the staff were really friendly. I would highly recommend.

Liked Immaculate site throughout. Beautiful landscaping and care to the grounds. Newish and spotless toilet/shower block, usual motorhome services, huge flat pitch overlooking fields, small on-site shop, super friendly young lady in reception. Couple of minutes walk to the lake, 10mins flat walk in to Bala where there are plenty of cafes, pubs and a few shops.

6M fully-serviced hardstanding campervan pitch

Liked We absolutely love this campsite! It is beautifully maintained and super relaxing!

The location is perfect for a slow weekend in nature, it's quiet, clean, very beautiful and just a short walk into Bala's high street & to the lake for ice cream and watersports.

The facilities are amazing! The toilets & showers are kept so clean and fresh!! We just love it here!

Disliked Maybe would make buying fire wood available out of hours for the shop, maybe an honesty box or something.... but this is in no way a downside, just a suggestion as we needed firewood around 6pm and couldn't access any close to the site at this time.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
