What customers say

Pen Y Bont offers a beautifully maintained and exceptionally clean campsite, praised for its modern and spotless facilities, including showers with underfloor heating. Guests frequently highlight the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the ideal location within easy walking distance of Bala Lake and town. The spacious pitches and peaceful atmosphere contribute to a highly recommended stay. While a few minor points were raised regarding road noise on some pitches and occasional Wi-Fi issues, overall visitor experiences are overwhelmingly positive.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (large)

Liked Really like the site. The welcome was good without being too long. very clean including the showers and toilets. My wife used the showers which she does not normally do and was impressed especially with the underfloor heating. I am a sailor at Bala sailing club, so the location was ideal.

Disliked No dislikes. We had a itch near the raod which can be a little noisy which is not a fault of the campsite

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (large)

Liked This was our first time with a tourer caravan and it was an amazing experience. The staff were so helpful and friendly especially Janice.
We liked the spaciousness of the pitches. The facilities were excellent. The shower blocks were clean and warm all of the time. The site was so picturesque and the position was excellent for walking into Bala. A stunning place with lots of walks and other activities on the lake. Many thanks for a memorable first time.

Little Green shepherd's hut

Liked Wonderful little hut. Perfect central point to visit lots of Wales adventures and great local walks for the dog in the morning.
Very comfortable and cosy with very useful extras in the hut
The facilities were very good. Best I've ever seen at a campsite with lovely showers and underfloor heating.
Only think I didn't like was being so close to the entrance of the campsite and close to the road but lucky it was quiet over the night.

Onnen 2 bedroom safari tent (pet friendly)

Liked Pen y Bont is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to camp or tour near Bala Lake. The site itself is beautifully maintained, with tidy pitches and a really friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Staff are fantastic, thanks to Jan & Grace who go out of their way to make sure you’ve got everything you need and are brilliant representatives for the site.

The location is hard to beat – only a short walk from Bala Lake, which is perfect for watersports, fishing, or just enjoying the scenery. It’s also a great base for exploring Snowdonia and the surrounding countryside.

Facilities are clean and well-kept, with good showers, toilets, and washing-up areas. The pitches are well laid out, offering both electric and non-electric options, and the site feels safe and quiet, even when busy.

Overall, Pen y Bont is a well-run, welcoming campsite in a stunning setting. Whether you’re glamping, touring with a caravan, bringing a motorhome, or pitching a tent, it’s an excellent choice for a break by Bala Lake.

⭐ Rating: 5/5 – Highly recommended for couples, families, and anyone who loves the outdoors.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (large)

Liked The grounds are beautiful, located a five minute walk to Bala lake and a short walk into the town. The toilet and shower block, really good, clean, warm with underfloor heating, I really liked the private wash and changing rooms that were separate to the shower rooms. Gave privacy for non shower change and wash. Good plan for pitches, we arrived after the office closed. Lots of side area/grass to the pitch, we had two dogs really good for them.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
