Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Gostou: The views Shower/toilet blocks (not sure how often they were cleaned though, they were not always clean) We did eventually enjoy our stay.

Não gostou: Tent pitches were super close to each other. Car had to park literally infront of the tent which blocked the views. We personally did find it abit overpriced.

As for your comments about the shower block, which we take a great pride in keeping clean, we are in and out of there regularly during the day but obviously can't be there 24/7 as we have other things to do on the site, so we can't pick up the pieces after customers all the time! As for the tents which are now getting bigger and bigger, the space between each pitch is what is legally required and the car parking space is on the edge of the tenting area, away from the tent but close enough to keep an eye on the car and definitely not blocking the views which you liked...

Lovely site in beautiful surroundings.

Gostou: Beautiful site, very well maintained. Grounds, showers, washing facilities all exceptional, best we have stayed at. Staff all lovely and helpful, especially Grace who even tried to help fix our small electric hook up issue.

Não gostou: Absolutely not a negative but we felt site didn’t have a lot to offer kids. However, we are owners of a very active 8yr old who enjoys kicking ball, climbing trees etc. More tame kids might be fine.

Gostou: Shower block/ washing up/ laundry block is brand new and kept very, very clean. A real pleasure to use. Just a quick 10/15 mins into bala high street and less than 2 mins to the bala steam train and lake. Really lovely, quiet site that is kept very well. Staff super friendly and helpful.

Gostou: Everything was immaculate at Pen y Bont! The facilities were lovely, the grass was like a bowling green, and there was a handy little shop selling basics, and camping equipment that may have been forgotten!! Bala lake was a very short walk away, with a very accessible stroll to the local cafe. There is also a nice walk into Bala town which takes about 20 minutes (or 40 if you have an inquisitive cockerpoo dog!) The narrow gauge train was a 5 minute walk away, and a lovely 30 minute ride along Bala Lake, which finishes at a little cafe. Pen y Bont was great for: Views Watersports Walks Relaxing The staff were very friendly, and we would not hesitate to return again.

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
