Got Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the national park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive) or climb Eryri's mountains. If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few balls as you go, head to the golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Cabana de pastor Little Green

Em va agradar Lovely experience in the shepherds hut. Clean and tidy with working appliances. Cosy and comfortable. Shower facilities 5*. Staff friendly and accommodating. Would stay again.

Em va agradar Good sized well kept pitch. Toilets and showers spotless and clean. Motorhome grey water drain available. Plenty of dog waste bins around site.

No em va agradar Shower water temperature a bit low for me. Only one way in and out of site on foot. EXPENSIVE AT £51 PER NIGHT. At high use times WiFi was weak our own 4G MiFi in motorhome was better

No em va agradar Never knew if shop would be open or shut, road noise if a pitch by the road but wasn’t too bad, quite an expensive campsite but it was bank holiday

The on-site shop is open from 9am-5pm unless we are out cleaning on site, in which case our contact number is always displayed on the front door of Reception should you need anything.

We understand that our Bank Holiday rates can feel a little higher, but we hope you felt the facilities, location and overall experience offered good value. The price for your stay was clearly shown at the time of booking in January, so we’re a little surprised to see the cost listed as a dislike several months later. We always aim to be transparent with our pricing, and the rate you paid was the rate agreed when your booking was made. We’d be very happy to welcome you back again in the future!

Em va agradar Lovely site, spacious pitches and well maintained. The showers were lovely and clean and had free organic shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

Short walk into Bala, lots of places to eat and drink with a few shops to potter around in.

Close to the lake.

No em va agradar We had young children so this site probably wasn’t for us. There wasn’t really anything for the kids to do on site, which we didn’t consider when booking. Not much space to run around, and signs saying no ball games which we understand but kids don’t 😅

Bala lake was lovely but it rained and was cold the full time so we didn’t really make the most of it.

Em va agradar Always a great pleasure staying here. The location was good and the new patio areas installed for camping is amazing. We did cut our time short by 1 day due to the weather. But all in all it was amazing

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
