Campsite

  • Quiet and scenic campsite in Britain's largest national park
  • A mile from Strathdon; an hour and a quarter by road from Aberdeen
  • Small on-site shop and animal petting corner
For spectacular scenery, there's nothing quite like a stint in the Cairngorms National Park. They do rugged and remote rather well in this part of Scotland – the area is home to a quarter of the UK's rare and endangered species, four of its five highest mountains and over 60 separate lochs. Exploring all of the above day after day is tiring work, so you'll want to find somewhere to rest up and relax after gallivanting through the Highlands. Enter Cairngorms Glamping, a low-key but scenic site in a quiet corner of Aberdeenshire. All plots here come with their own water and power supply and have an excellent outlook over the neighbouring countryside. There's plenty of space to spread out over the well-kept grounds, plus a small on-site shop where you can pick up local butcher/baker goods and locally made gifts. Cairngorms Glamping also has an animal petting corner, where friendly creatures like pygmy goats, alpacas and a donkey look forward to meeting you. Up at the top of a hill, there's also a naturally occurring pond, so dragonflies, ducks and other wildlife can be spotted too. Cairngorms Glamping is roughly a mile from the village of Strathdon, which is home to a small but well-stocked supermarket.

What customers say

This is a beautiful, peaceful campsite with stunning scenery and friendly, helpful staff. Visitors praise the spacious pitches, numerous activities for children including an animal petting area, and on-site food options. While generally clean, some guests noted that the toilet and shower facilities are basic and could benefit from updating and more capacity during busy periods. Despite minor facility concerns, many guests highly recommend the site and express a desire to return.

Electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked What a fantastic site. Tidy pitches and a fairly good phone signal even though it is literally in the middle of nowhere. This site is a must if you a planning a tour of Scotland or if you just want to use it as a base for a Cairngorms trip. There are plenty of activities if you have the kids with you or, just the 2? Then relax in complete silence or take a walk to visit the onsite animals We loved staying here and will definitely be visiting again.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked The setting is great with tremendous views.
Staff friendly.

Disliked The showers and toilet facilities are very poor. No hot water came through and the showers needed a clean. The site was untidy with kids toys scattered around, even though there were no children. Unfortunately there was also some dog mess in the field.

Liked Very beautiful place in nature with animal

Disliked bathrooms not suitable for a “Glamping”. There was only one bathroom for women and one for men, very dirty. The showers (2) mixed for men and women were dirty.

Local attractions

Looking to lounge about locally? Goodbrand and Ross gift shop and restaurant is a good place to grab a bite to eat or buy a few presents for folk back at home, while the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games take place annually a couple of miles to the north. For further typically Scottish attractions, try visiting one of the many distilleries in the area; the closest is roughly 30 minutes away. The Cairngorms is also uncommonly rich in castles, including the well-preserved ruins of Kildrummy Castle (20 minutes) and gorgeous 17th-century Braemar Castle (40 minutes). Balmoral (30 minutes), the long-term summer residence of the British royal family, will also be high up on the list of those seeking impressive architecture, art and antiques. Your hosts also recommend taking the time to drive out to Landmark Forest Adventure Park (an hour), a kid-oriented spot with a climbing wall, high ropes course, maze and rollercoaster. You might also like to drive east to the Grampian Transport Museum's top collection of exhibits (35 minutes), or to carry on all the way down to the North Sea coast at Aberdeen (an hour and a quarter).
