Sleep under stunning skies in the cairngorms national park

  • Quiet and scenic campsite in Britain's largest national park
  • A mile from Strathdon; an hour and a quarter by road from Aberdeen
  • Small on-site shop and animal petting corner
For spectacular scenery, there's nothing quite like a stint in the Cairngorms National Park. They do rugged and remote rather well in this part of Scotland – the area is home to a quarter of the UK's rare and endangered species, four of its five highest mountains and over 60 separate lochs. Exploring all of the above day after day is tiring work, so you'll want to find somewhere to rest up and relax after gallivanting through the Highlands. Enter Cairngorms Glamping, a low-key but scenic site in a quiet corner of Aberdeenshire. All plots here come with their own water and power supply and have an excellent outlook over the neighbouring countryside. There's plenty of space to spread out over the well-kept grounds, plus a small on-site shop where you can pick up local butcher/baker goods and locally made gifts. Cairngorms Glamping also has an animal petting corner, where friendly creatures like pygmy goats, alpacas and a donkey look forward to meeting you. Up at the top of a hill, there's also a naturally occurring pond, so dragonflies, ducks and other wildlife can be spotted too. Cairngorms Glamping is roughly a mile from the village of Strathdon, which is home to a small but well-stocked supermarket.

What customers say

A lovely, peaceful spot with stunning views and dark skies for stargazing. Spacious pitches, kids' activities, and friendly hosts. Some find the basic loos and showers a bit dated.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Great spot for all types of travellers... Secure for kids and families with on-site animal farm with donkeys, pony's, sheep, goats and Alpacas.
Few solo motorcyclists there too which was good to see being a fellow motorcyclist myself.
Owners really friendly and helpful. Small on site shop that stocks essentials, also sells wood for firepits that are spotted around the site. Nice touch. Fresh water and electric points at specific camp spots. Washing facilities with shower and toilets.
Plenty of small bikes and kids ride on toys with ball games available and all free to use.. loads of space .

Disliked Nothing really to add here..

Local attractions

Looking to lounge about locally? Goodbrand and Ross gift shop and restaurant is a good place to grab a bite to eat or buy a few presents for folk back at home, while the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games take place annually a couple of miles to the north. For further typically Scottish attractions, try visiting one of the many distilleries in the area; the closest is roughly 30 minutes away. The Cairngorms is also uncommonly rich in castles, including the well-preserved ruins of Kildrummy Castle (20 minutes) and gorgeous 17th-century Braemar Castle (40 minutes). Balmoral (30 minutes), the long-term summer residence of the British royal family, will also be high up on the list of those seeking impressive architecture, art and antiques. Your hosts also recommend taking the time to drive out to Landmark Forest Adventure Park (an hour), a kid-oriented spot with a climbing wall, high ropes course, maze and rollercoaster. You might also like to drive east to the Grampian Transport Museum's top collection of exhibits (35 minutes), or to carry on all the way down to the North Sea coast at Aberdeen (an hour and a quarter).
