  • Family-friendly site in a rural spot three miles from Frome
  • A 15-minute drive from Longleat House and Longleat Safari Park
  • Firepits and games room on site
Set on a Somerset break? It's a crafty move to grab a spot at The Den and Orchard, a family-friendly site on the edge of Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It just so happens that there are plenty of walks nearby, as well as other days out in the local area including fishing, mountain biking, visits to National Trust properties and the excellent Longleat Safari Park. Firepits are positioned on every pitch for a laidback evening of cooking and flame gazing. The appointed chef can acquire essentials at the supermarkets in Frome, three miles away. If you'd rather let someone else do the honours, it's possible to order local food delivery from your phone or take a short five-minute drive to local food outlets. The site also has a takeaway open during the evenings from Thursday to Saturday (although occasionally closed on weekends). Called the Fudeboy Kitchen, it specialises in plant-based street food. Facilities on site include a washing-up area and a wooden toilet block with gents’ and ladies’ toilets and showers. A games room (with darts, table football and table tennis) is on hand too, for damp evenings and general entertainment. Being just under half a mile from an A road, you may hear some road noise at rush hour or if the wind is blowing in the site's direction. Just outside of Frome, it's a bit noisier here than at a fully rural site, but it's very handy for getting around and also for ordering from takeaways in Frome or quickly picking up supplies in town.

The Lair camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: Lovely little site, close to amenities, games room was a big hit with the kids! Pod was perfect!

Disliked: Not a dislike, just wasn’t sure as it isn’t very clear on booking. However was slightly disappointed on site food was just plant based, the old menu looked lovely. Won’t stop us coming back however!

From the manager: Hi Karleigh, We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, and we hope your daughter enjoyed her birthday and liked her balloons and banners. We're sorry to hear you were dissapointed about the food on site. Fudeboy Kitchen does amazing food that needs to be tried to appreicate how good it is. In our site info, you will find the information on Fudeboy Kitchen. Please also remeber that being so close to Frome town centre means that, if you do want something Fudeboy doesn't do, then you can order from Uber Eats or Deliveroo which can take around 20 mins to be delivered. We do hope you come back to visit soon!

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Friendliness of staff. Set up, style and high standard of site. Cleanliness and the little extras that makes this site stand out from the rest.

Disliked: The A road is just on the other side of adjacent field and is really busy (traffic noise), take your ear plugs. Not suitable for walking as no paths/pavement and road so busy.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Kerry, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry you found the road too noisy, it really does depend which was the wind is blowing and it can be busier around rush hour. We have many campers that never hear it and have a very peaceful stay whilst listening to bird song. We are near to Frome town, so although in a lovely rural spot you can easily access lots of amenties. Regarding the walking and footpaths, just over the road from the campsite are the most beautiful scenic walks, which will take you for miles, on decidated footpaths. We do hope you come and visit again soon. Kind regards Natalie

Liked: Easy to access, quiet, really good facilities, good play area and really good games room in case it rains. The site was kept to a very standard, the washing facilities had lots of hot water, and had a fridge / kettle. This is a really, really good choice and close to Longleat safari park.
