Set on a Somerset break? It's a crafty move to grab a spot at The Den and Orchard, a family-friendly site on the edge of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape. It just so happens that there are plenty of walks nearby, as well as other days out in the local area, including fishing, mountain biking, visits to National Trust properties and the excellent Longleat Safari Park. Firepits are available on a first-come, first-served basis – either bring your own firewood or purchase it on site – for a laidback evening of cooking and flame gazing. The appointed chef can acquire essentials at the supermarkets in Frome, three miles away. If you'd rather let someone else do the honours, it's possible to order local food delivery from your phone or take a short five-minute drive to local food outlets. Facilities on site include a washing-up area and a wooden toilet block with gents’ and ladies’ toilets and showers. A games room (with darts, table football and table tennis) is on hand too, for damp evenings and general entertainment. Being just under half a mile from an A road, you may hear some road noise at rush hour or if the wind is blowing in the site's direction. Just outside of Frome, it's a bit noisier here than at a fully rural site, but it's very handy for getting around and also for ordering from takeaways in Frome or quickly picking up supplies in town.

喜欢 Well cared for site with warm and clean ladies

不喜欢 Problem with drains backing up when washing up and using gents toilets.
Although dog friendly nowhere we could see to walk the dogs off lead within easy walking distance.
Very very tight turning for 7 m motorhome.

喜欢 It was good for an overnight stop great idea for games room

不喜欢 But pitches were arkward to reverse into very narrow site and shower and toilet were like being in a shed But were very clean

喜欢 The provision of individual outdoor tables, the showers and toilets were very basic but functional and generally clean, the sensor lights however were
a little hit and miss during the day

喜欢 This campsite was in a great location for us heading down south. It was easy to get to, had great facilities which were spotless, and was really quiet during our stay (there were only a couple of other spots taken). We also really liked that each pitch had its own picnic bench.

Work up an appetite for the next meal tackling the mountain bike trails at Windhill Bike Park or seeking out one of the circular walking trails in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; both are about 10 minutes away by car. If you’d like your walks to take in pretty gardens and historic buildings, head to Nunney Castle (five minutes’ drive), The Walled Garden at Mells (10 minutes) or Stourhead National Trust property (15 minutes). Bath’s half an hour away for urban strolls with a Roman tinge, and fishing is 15 minutes away at Shearwater Lake for those who need a bit of a rest. You’ll easily fill a day over at Longleat (15 minutes away), driving the safari trails, visiting all the different animal areas, touring the house and pottering through the pleasure gardens. The famed caves and kid-friendly attractions at Wookey Hole are about half an hour away.
