  • Family-friendly site in a rural spot three miles from Frome
  • A 15-minute drive from Longleat House and Longleat Safari Park
  • Firepits (first-come, first-served) and games room on site
Set on a Somerset break? It's a crafty move to grab a spot at The Den and Orchard, a family-friendly site on the edge of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape. It just so happens that there are plenty of walks nearby, as well as other days out in the local area, including fishing, mountain biking, visits to National Trust properties and the excellent Longleat Safari Park. Firepits are available on a first-come, first-served basis – either bring your own firewood or purchase it on site – for a laidback evening of cooking and flame gazing. The appointed chef can acquire essentials at the supermarkets in Frome, three miles away. If you'd rather let someone else do the honours, it's possible to order local food delivery from your phone or take a short five-minute drive to local food outlets. Facilities on site include a washing-up area and a wooden toilet block with gents’ and ladies’ toilets and showers. A games room (with darts, table football and table tennis) is on hand too, for damp evenings and general entertainment. Being just under half a mile from an A road, you may hear some road noise at rush hour or if the wind is blowing in the site's direction. Just outside of Frome, it's a bit noisier here than at a fully rural site, but it's very handy for getting around and also for ordering from takeaways in Frome or quickly picking up supplies in town.

What customers say

Clean, well-kept site with friendly owners, secure access, great facilities (games room, playground). Good for Longleat. Mostly peaceful, though some road noise at peak times and occasional shower/toilet queues, with recent improvements noted.

Crabby Apple cabin

Liked Loved everything about it! The host was so friendly helpful and welcoming. It was only a short flying stay of one night, but it was so great that the loos and washing up areas were so clean. The small cabin we stayed in had everything needed. It seemed a lovely place for families.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked Great showers, good pitch for our XL tent, picnic bench provided. Very close to Longleat.

Disliked A-road is VERY loud. We live near an A-road and get some traffic noise in our garden but this was so loud it affected our sleep. It is a steep road so cars, lorries and motorbikes have to rev to get up it. Motorbikes woke us up throughout the night on all three nights of our stay. A shame as it is a lovely campsite.

Electricity went out on the last morning and I think it has blown the fuse on our electric hook-up extension as the trip switch now does not work and no power goes to the unit, which will be an added cost to fix or replace on top of our stay.

A great site for touring vans and the many cabins they have but too loud for camping.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked Absolutely loved The Den and Orchard. It was easy to find and the instructions were clear on how to get in. The pitches were the perfect size with a picnic bench to use and a BBQ to pick from. The shower, WC and washing up facilities were very clean and more than adequate. It became apparent very early on why it had such a high score on pitch up reviews.
The people there managing the site were so accommodating and friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. There was ample entertainment for the evenings and they even provided crockery and cutlery for people bringing in takeaways. The campsite was quiet and everyone else respected the no noise policy after 9pm.
There was nothing we didn’t like and wished we had stayed there a second night as didn’t enjoy the campsite at Longleat as much. Will definitely go back!

Liked Such a lovely small site. This was our first time out in our camper and we are so glad we picked here. Plenty of space on our pitch, 2 shower/ toilet blocks and a games room to pass some time. We will be back in the future

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked Friendly and helpful staff - facilities and small well maintained site that has a nice communal feel. Well located for many days out such as Longleat, Wookey Hole and towns like Bath,Wells and Glastonbury

Disliked Site is possibly more geared towards motorhomes than tents (not a bad thing depending on your perspective). Traffic noise from A361 can disturb the peace to a degree at night but not a problem to an average urban resident
