A family-friendly site with grassy field pitches on a working farm, Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake is on the outskirts of the peaceful Dorset village of Langton Matravers, on the Isle of Purbeck. This is an excellent base to unwind or explore the Purbecks, whether it's walking, cycling, climbing, kayaking, coasteering or visiting tourist attractions. Pick any spot you like at this well-located site five minutes' drive from Swanage beach and 15 minutes from Studland beach. Walks through the fields to the South West Coast Path are directly accessible from the site; once there, you're on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and can get to spectacular walks and views of Dancing Ledge (check out the small sea pool) and the caves at Winspit Quarry. There's a bus stop and a range of footpaths just outside the site, so it's easy to explore the area on foot or by bus or car. Walk to Swanage or the historic village of Corfe Castle, or to the pub in Worth Matravers (40 minutes' walk) for a cider or two. The closest pub to the site is less than 500 metres away and has a cosy beer garden. This site's all about unwinding and soaking in the countryside views, so off-ground firepits and barbecues are welcome. There's a small shop and an on-site café serving local produce, including breakfast and lunch. In the evenings, they sometimes open up an offset smoker barbecue or pizza oven. Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake also has an attraction farm (an additional fee applies) with a large indoor soft play area, a playground and pedal go-karts. Other on-site amenities include toilets, token-operated showers and a washing-up point.

Liked Cafe was good. Toilet and shower facilities fine. Views spectacular. Friendly village pub in close proximity.

Disliked Camping field is on a hill, so a bit of thought required when pitching up.

Unfortunately there appeared to be a party/rave nearby, with loud music playing from midnight until 6am. This did limit the amount of sleep any of us got.

Liked Spacious campsite and was able to have a campfire. The location is good for getting to the local beaches and staff were very friendly

Disliked The field had too much poo in it and the toilets are located in one corner which is far away from the flat pitches.
The main issue we had was very loud music with a bass beat going all night. It stopped at 6am so it wasn't quite the peaceful getaway that we wanted

The cafe at the farm is open for breakfast and lunch and the food is very good!
We pitched right next to the pig field. The pigs were quiet and snuggled up together to sleep. It was very cute.

Liked Great feel to the entire place. Plenty of hot water in the showers, you just have to time it right. Toilets clean. Lovely views and delicious food in the Salt Pig Cafe.

Disliked This campsite feels like little more than an extra source of income for the farm.

We weren't even shown where the camping area was upon arrival. The facilities were very basic, with no amenities provided - not even a kettle. The café closed at 4:30 pm, and the staff seemed eager to clock off rather than assist guests.

The shower charge is ridiculous, as many other reviews have already mentioned, and the toilets had puddles of water on the floor.

There was a lot of sheep droppings across the sloped camping field, which is far from ideal when pitching a tent.

At £35 for a single night, the value for money is extremely poor. Combined with the lack of service and facilities, I would not recommend staying here.

Disliked So much sheep poo! We know this is a farm but we have a one year old who is very much on the move and also loves to pick everything up. We were not expecting so much poo around the campsite which made it hard as she wanted to roam but couldn’t.

Campsite was on a steep slope but we did manage to find a flatish place to camp at the top of the hill.

Toilets seamed to get regularly blocked and often wouldn’t flush.

Only one drinking water tap at the bottom of the hill by the toilets which was tough as the flat spaces were mostly at the top of the hill.

And when you’re all beached out, you can head to Prince Albert Gardens for views of the Victorian pier and Swanage Bay, or take a ride on the Swanage Railway's heritage trains all the way to Corfe Castle and beyond. Overlooked by the ruins of 11th-century Corfe Castle, Dorset Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive) is the place to get wet (at the inflatable water park) and/or muddy (at the assault course with cargo nets, monkey bars and mud slides). If you’re into militaria, you'll likely appreciate the displays at The Tank Museum (25 minutes), which include armoured vehicles from both World Wars, plus other conflicts like the wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan.
