  • Family-friendly farm site on the Isle of Purbeck
  • On the edge of Langton Matravers; five minutes' drive from Swanage
  • Café; adventure farm (additional fee) with a petting zoo and soft play
A family-friendly site with grassy field pitches on a working farm, Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake sits on the outskirts of the peaceful Dorset village of Langton Matravers, on the Isle of Purbeck. This is an excellent base to unwind or explore the Purbecks, whether it's walking, cycling, climbing, kayaking, coasteering or visiting tourist attractions. When you roll up here, you're free to pick any spot you like. This site is all about unwinding and soaking in the countryside views, so off-ground firepits and barbecues are welcome. On-site amenities include toilets, token-operated showers and a washing-up point. You’ll never be far from the sea on this scenic stretch of land: the site is a five-minute drive from Swanage beach and 15 minutes from Studland beach. Walks through fields to the South West Coast Path are directly accessible from the site; once there, you're on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and can get to spectacular views like the Dancing Ledge (check out the small sea pool…) and the caves at Winspit Quarry. The site has a small shop and an on-site café serving local produce, including breakfast and lunch. In the evenings, it sometimes opens up an offset smoker barbecue or pizza oven. Salt Pig The Farm - Putlake also has an adventure farm (an additional fee applies) with a petting zoo, a large indoor soft play area, a playground and pedal go-karts. With a bus stop and a range of footpaths just outside the site, it's easy to explore the area on foot, by bus or by car. There are car-free trails to the historic village of Corfe Castle (one hour and 15 minutes on foot or a 10-minute drive). And just in case this all-round top location wasn’t already great enough, it's also less than 500 metres from the local pub, which has a cosy beer garden. Another popular pub is a five-minute drive away – although, after a few ciders, the bus might come in handy.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good location for accessing beaches.

Disliked Regularly seemed to run out of toilet paper and handwash. Bins were overflowing and a distance from the main field.

Liked The price based on 1 person; great view, peaceful location, good shower, cafe next to field; despite being overall a sloping field there are flat areas: I found one easily; good loos.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely relaxed little site. Staff are friendly, and there is a great little cafe/shop which doubles as the reception.

Some stunning walks in the area, with the coast path not too far away. Easy access to Swanage and Poole with bus stops just up the road.

Cracking local pub serving good food, with friendly staff and locals.

Only 2 showers as other reviewers mention, but I didn’t have to queue once during a 5 night stay. The showers themselves are great. Nice and warm, loads of hooks for hanging bags and clothes, and a bench. Toilets spotlessly clean.

Disliked Minor moan, but the bins say not to use them. I guess for those not staying at the site, but this was a bit confusing.

Liked Absolutely loved staying there with my daughter and grandson. Wonderful owners and staff! Very welcoming, friendly, happy people.
We had the chance to feed the pigs and my grandson got to feed a baby goat and have great fun in the play barn.
It was the very first time my grandson had gone camping and he loved it there too.

Local attractions

With a long sandy beach and shallow waters, Swanage is a popular destination for a family day at the seaside. And when you’re all beached out, you can head to Prince Albert Gardens for views of the Victorian pier and Swanage Bay, or take a ride on the Swanage Railway's heritage trains all the way to Corfe Castle and beyond. Overlooked by the ruins of 11th-century Corfe Castle, Dorset Adventure Park (10 minutes’ drive) is the place to get wet (at the inflatable water park) and/or muddy (at the assault course with cargo nets, monkey bars and mud slides). If you’re into militaria, you'll likely appreciate the displays at The Tank Museum (25 minutes), which include armoured vehicles from both World Wars, plus other conflicts like the wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan. Iconic Jurassic Coast destinations Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are half an hour's drive away.
