  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away
For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east. This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches. Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day. When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked The view is good
Reception available

Disliked Access is terrible for motorbikes, there is a very steep 2- turn access that is not suitable for any vehicles never mind the sign that says not for heavy vehicles. Also the signage is poor. I went passed it twice before I noticed it. Wouldn’t go again.

Fantastic site, great clean facilities, open and peaceful

Non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Treacle valley is a beautiful spot to camp!
It's easy to find, just down off the main road, but you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Lovely easy pitches, you can pitch anywhere and park right next to it. There's a nice little play park for young kids and plenty of space for them to run around.

Waking up to the low quiet sounds of cows and sheep in the surrounding fields is lovely.

The visit from the farmers collie pup really finished off a lovely trip!

Toilet and shower block is fantastically clean, which we were very impressed with!

Would definitely stay again very clean facility’s.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (medium)

Liked Beautiful views across the valley. Clean showers and toilets. Not far to walk to shops, fish and chip shop and even a Chinese takeaway shop. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Disliked Camp site is on a slope but if you want valley views, you have to put up with it.

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas. The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK. A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village. Take the kids on an animal adventure at Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) or visit the seaside towns of Torquay (15 minutes), Paignton (20 minutes), Brixham (half an hour), Shaldon (15 minutes) or Teignmouth (20 minutes) for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
