Next to farmland

General

  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away

For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east.

This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches.

Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service 24/7 from the laundry room in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day.

When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

The views over the green fields are amazing! Also loved the heated shower / toilet block, which was very welcome on some of the colder nights. Showers take a little time to warm up, but with patience comes great rewards - they're toasty warm once they get going and have good pressure. The whole block was very clean too, even the shower trays which I find is not always the case in some places. No need for flip flop showering here!
The owner is really laid back and friendly and the site is green and peaceful. The perfect getaway for a city girl like me.
Torquay is a 12 minute drive away and there are food shops within walking distance, although prepare yourself for the megahill!
Had a lovely time here and would definitely visit again.

    Disliked:

Could do with enforcing a dogs on leads policy. I witnessed a couple of dogs dropping 'eggs' where the owners were not watching, and also had to fend one off as I was cooking my evening meal as it took a fancy to my chicken stir-fry haha

We loved this site. A beautiful setting with great views of the countryside. A small but ample park next to a stream which kept all the kids of the campsite busy playing together. It can be seen from most of the site so the kids were free to play there independently. Good amenities and a very friendly welcome. Check in and out whenever. It was perfect in it’s simplicity. And just 10-15 mins drive from some fantastic beaches and restaurants. So the best of both worlds.

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby try a visit to the historic village of Cockington three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas.

The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK.

A walk along Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village.

Take the kids on an animal adventure to explore the marine displays of Living Coasts coastal zoo and the enclosures of Paignton Zoo, both within six miles, or visit the seaside towns of Torquay, Newton Abbot, Paignton or Totnes for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
