Treacle Valley Campsite

9.1
Treacle Valley Campsite: Amazing sunset views (photo added by manager on 27/07/2022)

General

  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away

For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east.

This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches.

Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day.

When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

Please note

Reception is unmanned after 9:30 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

really nice laid back place26/09/2023

lovely quiet, laid back site, in a rural, farmed valley spacious gently sloping field with pitch where you feel happy ethos. Clean large facility block with plenty of hot showers and hot water at the taps. Ideal for families (room to run and play area) hikers, cyclists etc. The perfect location for exploring South Devon, close to beaches and stunning coastline, English Riviera towns, steam railway and boat trips. Helpful Owners family farm so local knowledge, swimmer, walker, own guide to beaches. Good phone, data connectivity for those unable to suspend their disbelief that independent self reliance is possible. Just a nice place to unwind.

    Disliked:

It rained and my tent leaked, hardly their fault, but did help resolve problem, thanks again.

It is basic - there free showers, but not much room in cubicle so clothes, towels etc will get wet.

Good overall but could do with a revamp of facilities13/09/2023

Reasonably quiet. Has friendly staff, free showers and anytime check-in and check-out

    Disliked:

Toilet facilities were very basic. Showers, although unlimited, has nowhere to keep your dry clothes etc away from the shower water apart from two door hooks, leading to spray etc hitting bags/clothes/towels/shoes. The lights in the toilet block seem to be on all night long whereas perhaps a motion-sensor controlled light would be better. This, we believe, may lead to flying insects coming in through the permanently open door and making cleaning more of an issue than it could be. Perhaps a revamp of the toilet block could be considered to reduce the number of toilet cubicles and to enable enlargement of the shower cubicles?

Fabulous place, very friendly host, excellent accomodation in the Horse Box, it includes everything you need.

It could have some more amenities like a restaurant or food stall in case you don't want to go to the town for shopping.

Site was pleasant, situated within easy access to Torbay area.

    Disliked:

There was a large group of people (adults) behind us with families and they were loud until 12 and after and then started again at 6am. Also they had a dog tied up barking ALL day Saturday so much it became hoarse. On other sites there would have been a warden who intervened to ask them to be a little more responsible or to suggest they walk their dog and be quiet at the ends /start of the day.

I will go back - just hope they aren't there !!

Ideal location, very close to amenities but felt nice and rural.
    Lovely views.
    Good, clean facilities.

    Disliked:

Personal preference about the roads into the site - very narrow and steep country lanes. Others will likely not be bothered by this and it's just a personal preference rather than something wrong with the site.

The site's postcode, TQ12 4ST, is the same for the whole village and will leave you at the middle cottage that is coincidentally also called Treacle Barn. Please do not camp there. The site is next to the last house in the village (500 metres away) towards Torquay, on Orestone lane.

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas.

The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK.

A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village.

Take the kids on an animal adventure to explore the marine displays of Living Coasts coastal zoo and the enclosures of Paignton Zoo, both within six miles, or visit the seaside towns of Torquay, Newton Abbot, Paignton or Totnes for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
