  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked This is a real gem of a site.
The reception staff were polite, friendly and really helpful.
The amenities were spotless and first class.
The site was peaceful.
We had a touring full service pitch which even though slightly sloping, we had no trouble in siting our caravan.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

From the manager: Many thanks Philip for such a fantastic review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to seeing you on your return journey. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Atmosphere, service, facilities and hosts we’re all perfect.

Disliked Road aside is a bit noisy.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review. Sadly we do have some road noise as we do have the old A30 which runs past the site. This gives guest fantastic access and a bus route to Exeter and even Bude. Best wishes from Leigh and David

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Very pleasant site with large pitches so that it doesn't feel crowded. Good facilities and very pleasant wardens. Farm shop about 100m way on a path across a field.

Disliked Road along one side of site has some noise intrusion of large lorries first thing in the morning.

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. You are correct we do indeed have a road that runs past the site. This means that the access that you have in getting to us is brilliant! You also have a bus that takes you from the site to Exeter and to Okehampton and even Bude. Again this is because we have a road running past our site! We are also in the country which means that we have tractors and some wagons passing. This is a public road and it is out of our control what travels on it. Also just to note that you were in a tent, which means there is very little to block any sound. We are pleased to see that the road hasn't put you off visiting us again. Best wishes from Leigh and David

Electric optional grass pitch

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. With regards to the road which gives you fantastic access with your large motorhome, you are right as you have said because of the road we are very lucky to have the bus that stops outside the site! With regards to tractors driving past. We are in the country and they are busy working to provide food for us all. We are sorry that this bothered you during your stay with us. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Liked Very nice well kept site. Quite and relaxed atmosphere. Nice owners and good Farm shop.

Disliked Trees at far end hanging too low hitting the top of my motorhome when we were leaving.

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. However we are disappointed that when we waved you goodbye you didn't mention the over hanging tree to us! Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
