  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is praised for its exceptional cleanliness and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors highlight the friendly and helpful staff, well-maintained pitches, and modern facilities, including spotless showers and toilets. Its convenient location for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area is frequently mentioned. The dog-friendly approach, complete with a secure dog walking area, is also a popular feature. While some note occasional road noise due to its proximity to the A30, this is generally not considered a major issue. Many guests express a desire to return, citing it as a top choice.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Wow what an amazing site !!!

Firstly so easy to get too, a warm welcome as well, and extremely helpful owners, when we arrived our grandparents was there as well and they pitched us up next to them which was fantastic.

Loved the dog park where the dogs can run around with no lead

Site was emactule and well maintained grounds

The farm shop wow some off the best burgers and bacon we have ever had and reasonable priced.

Where you check in there is a little shop with the basics, and they have ice cream as well which went down well in this heat.

Also they got doggy ice cream as well so our dog was happy with this,

Plenty off Taps with drinking water

Spacious pitches and dishwashing area

The shower block and toilet was so clean

Love the fact they close these for a hour to do a deep clean, but the disabled toilet can be used for this period.

It was so peaceful and relaxing

No hills or county lanes to access the site,

Personally I would highly recommend this site I will definitely be returning again,

If your looking for somewhere just to go off grid and take in nature this is the place to go.

Just outside the site you can flag down the bus to go out for the day and its drops you back outside the site.

The drewe community pub, is a pub you must try but I would advise driving instead off walking, unless super super fit.

A lovely couple at the pub drove my Grandparents back and my partner and I took a stroll back to site its about a half hour walk

The owners did recommended the pub and it was well worth the walk, but they also did warn us that its extremely hilly and down country lanes and we took the risk

but it was a beautiful walk and you see so much wildlife is was amazing.

But if you just wanna stay local and have a cook up then the farm shop will have everything you need, and its all fresh.

Will definitely comeback before summer out and stay here again.

Have already mentioned to my friends about this site

Thank you so much for a lovely break,
Will definitely look forward to coming back 😊 ☺️

Liked Spacious pitch with picnic table. Immaculate site and utilities block. Great info about local walks and attractions. Fantastic fully secured dog field where they can go off lead for a good run about.

Disliked Road noise didn’t bother us, but it is close to the main road.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site with spacious pitches. The grounds are well maintained, as are ‘the facilities’. The hosts were most welcoming, answering any questions we had and providing a wealth of local information. Free WiFi was as unexpected bonus. The reception area also supplies essential foods and a few caravan / motorhome spares. Its was also nice that the site has a dog walking field where you can let you dog off for a run!

Disliked Nothing to dislike, really. We would return, without hesitation.

Liked Well presented site with excellent facilities

Disliked Adjacent road could be noisy at times

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. With regards to the road noise. Please note that this is the road that you enter the site from which means no country lanes to contend with, this is not the A30 so it is not continuous traffic. The campsite is very quiet so you will notice when a car passed by. We are pleased to see that you would return and we hope to see you again. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
