  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is highly praised for its immaculate cleanliness, modern facilities, and spacious pitches. Visitors consistently highlight the friendly and helpful owners, the peaceful atmosphere, and the excellent dog exercise area. Its convenient location near the A30 and local attractions is also a significant plus. Minor points raised include occasional road noise and the distance to some amenities, though these are generally considered minor drawbacks that do not detract from the overall positive experience.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Exceptionally clean and tidy, very friendly and helpful owners, good facilities, great pitch, dog exercising area was perfect, lovely and quiet. Couldn't fault the site. The pub is fabulous, good food and friendly service. Note it is closed on Mondays as is the farm shop at the bottom of the path . We will be back, hopefully not before too long. And we saw a hedgehog on our wildlife camera 🦔.

Disliked Not the fault of the campsite but it is quite a hike to get to the local village (where the pub is), although it's very good and definitely worth the slog up the hills along the lane.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Lovely clean and tidy park with very friendly staff. Washrooms excellent and handy dog exercise area and shop. Nearby farm shop handy, shame the cafe is no more.

Disliked Unfortunately weekends being loud motorcycles racing on the old A30 right past the door. Weekdays very peaceful.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
