General

  • Free access to River Dart adventure playground and facilities
  • What camping is all about
  • On-site cafe and spacious pitches

River Dart Country Park is the ideal place for outdoor fun and adventure. The campsite offers everything that camping in the great outdoors is all about: nights under canvas, open air cooking and perhaps even a little star gazing - in a superb location on the edge of the River Dart.

Facilities include a modern, well-equipped amenity blocks, with free hot water and showers. There is a cover washing-up area and a laundry room (coin operated). Leisure facilities include a tennis court (bring your own rackets) and a toddlers' beach. Guests can also enjoy a quick bite at the on-site Old Sawmill café along with refreshments and delicious Sunday Carvery.

The campsite is located near by River Dart Adventures where guests are invited to use the facilities. Dare Devil activities (subject to extra cost, payable on arrival) include water zorbs, high ropes course, indoor climbing wall, canoeing and mega zipwire.

Also on show is our Archimedes screw which provides the park with all of its electricity for 80% of the year and our new biomass heating system which produces hot water for the amenity blocks, making your holiday very green.

The Food which was served at the cafe was of good quality and large portion size for the prices charged.

    Disliked:

If advertising as a Hard Standing pitch we feel it needs to be slightly wider than the average width of a motorhome otherwise you are stepping out from your door onto wet grass and mud. The pitches were very muddy and it makes your stay difficult having to remove muddy items of footwear every time you need to get in and out of your motorhome.

Loved the activities, facilities, restaurant, good pitch space, helpful staff, great fun holiday feel, dog friendly.

    Disliked:

I thought the price for a week for a family of 5 in a caravan with a dog was high. £500. I expected the site to be larger and there be more activities or maybe just as a child it seemed bigger not visiting for many years! It was disappointing to have desired activities that were chargeable adding £100 to our stay (Holiday now £600 our choice) wanting to make the most of our holiday. I found it frustrating that under 5s were charged double the entry price as an added member to a pitch. Whereby every other person was approximately the same. I would say it was a good holiday but felt it was not as good of value as I expected. Oh and stocking well known Rose wine would be nice as we returned the unbranded bottle.

Directions

Within the Dartmoor National Park, yet only one mile from the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth near Ashburton, we are easy to find and conveniently located.

Follow the brown tourist signs to the River Dart Country Park from the Peartree Junction on the A38 by Ashburton.

Please note that the Peartree junction is the second Ashburton junction when travelling from Exeter direction. Do not come off at the Linhay junction which takes you through the narrow streets of Ashburton - not ideal when towing a caravan.

Local attractions

Whilst the campsite offers plenty, you shouldn't miss out on the varied and wonderful attractions Devon has to offer. Ditch the car and explore the surrounding countryside by bike or on foot. Shopaholics can find relief in Dartington Cider Press near Totnes, or the nearby cities of Exeter and Plymouth.
