  • Quiet back-to-basics site on a working farm in Illogan
  • Golf course, trampoline park and watersports lake within 20 minutes
  • 10 minutes' walk from village pubs and 45 from Portreath beach
A working farm on the edge of a Cornwall village, with easy access to country footpaths and a 45-minute saunter from the beach… the kind of place one could settle in for a lifetime, eh? The folks at Hillcrest Views Campsite certainly think so – the family set up home here over 80 years ago and haven’t budged since. Current owner Amy’s now welcoming guests to share in her tribe’s special spot while making sure it doesn’t lose its peaceful vibe – thus the small site has pleasingly spacious pitches but only basic amenities. Flick through the pics and you’ll note some gorgeous rural views: a fab backdrop for stoking up a barbecue while the kids race about playing games. Admire those views for a bit and you’ll probably think you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pleasing to remember that you’re a mere 10-minute amble from Illogan village and its pub, shops and chippy (plus a pasty shop, of course – a staple in these parts). If you’re doing DIY dins, supermarket supplies for your meals can be picked up in Redruth, 10 minutes’ drive away. You could spend many a day wandering on local trails and beaches, but if you’ve brought the kids it’s handy to know that you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from all sorts of family attractions, including a castle, a trampoline park and a watersports centre. It’s also just a mile or so to the A30 for those looking to head to more far-flung attractions like St Ives or the Eden Project.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Location, cleanliness of campsite, toilets and showers were so clean and fresh. basic and minimal but that is not a criticism of the campsite. Plenty of space between pitches and very good price for the stay we had with them, Roger met us and directed us to our pitch and explained everything that was needed to be. Instructions on how to get there were very easy, also history of how the campsite came about.

Disliked: Nothing

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: The site layout and location. Although we are social people we liked that the pitches are separated by the laurel bushes. This not only defines the pitch area but also gives a certain amount of privacy. The whole site was well maintained.

Disliked: Not really a dislike, but more of an observation. The access road could be compromised if vehicles parked on the main road park too close. Having sad that we didn't notice any problems and we have a 4 berth caravan.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Amy and Roger were very welcoming, helpful and kind. We were greeted almost immediately and we're given clear instruction where to find everything on the farm. Help was always available if needed. Amazing views, clean and well cared for pitches. Facilities were less than a minute walk from our pitch, including private shower rooms. Facilities were cleaned regularly and toilet supplies were always available (no need for spare loo roll). Honestly could not fault our stay, just brilliant. Thank you so much for making our holiday feel like home. Definitely recommend and will be returning

Route directions

Coming from Redruth, enter Illogan coming up a large hill. At the brow of the hill you will see two chapels opposite one another. Take it slowly here, as the site is 50 yards further on, on the right-hand side opposite a little crossroad sign for Richards Lane. Look out for a concrete lane with central grass verge between two white cottages; this leads up to the site.
