Hillcrest Views Campsite: Valley views

General

  • Quiet back-to-basics site on a working farm in Illogan
  • Golf course, trampoline park and watersports lake within 20 minutes
  • 10 minutes' walk from village pubs and 45 from Portreath beach

A working farm on the edge of a Cornwall village, with easy access to country footpaths and a 45-minute saunter from the beach… the kind of place one could settle in for a lifetime, eh?

The folks at Hillcrest Views Campsite certainly think so – the family set up home here over 80 years ago and haven’t budged since. Current owner Amy’s now welcoming guests to share in her tribe’s special spot while making sure it doesn’t lose its peaceful vibe – thus the small site has pleasingly spacious pitches but only basic amenities. Flick through the pics and you’ll note some gorgeous rural views: a fab backdrop for stoking up a barbecue while the kids race about playing games.

Admire those views for a bit and you’ll probably think you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pleasing to remember that you’re a mere 10-minute amble from Illogan village and its pub, shops and chippy (plus a pasty shop, of course – a staple in these parts). If you’re doing DIY dins, supermarket supplies for your meals can be picked up in Redruth, 10 minutes’ drive away.

You could spend many a day wandering on local trails and beaches, but if you’ve brought the small sorts it’s handy to know that you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from all sorts of family attractions, including a castle, a trampoline park and a watersports centre. It’s also just a mile or so to the A30 for those looking to head to more far-flung attractions like St Ives or the Eden Project.

Best site I’ve ever been to. Clean facilities, spacious, friendly.07/31/2021

Very very clean. Spacious pitches. Good friendly helpful staff. I will use this site to rate other sites in future. Will 100% be my first port of call when booking in future. I can only mark them out of 5 yet would give at least a 7 for value for money and friendliness.

    Disliked:

    Nothing really!
Maybe the pot cleaning area could have warm water yet that would be a harsh harsh criticism and it didn’t spoil our time here at all.
Highly recommend and will be my go to.

We had a great week staying here. The site was extremely clean, the pitches were well kept and very spacious. Location was great, we walked to Portreath most days, and the campsite had beautiful views.

Thank you for your lovely review Miriam. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and our local beach. Although we are working on developing the campsite to shape around customers feedback, we are the base to explore all the beautiful places around. It was a pleasure having you both and site and we wish you all the best for the rest of your summer.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your lovely review and feedback. We are really pleased your enjoyed your stay whilst walking the southwest coastal path. Although we have hired additional portaloos this year to add to our current facilities for this summer, plans are underway to extend our toilet/shower block and this will include doubling our toilets/showers, additional hand basins, a vanity area, inside dishwashing stations and a freezer at present following on from customer feedback.
Thank you for staying with us and we wish you all the best for the rest of your walking journey this summer.

This site was so lovely! A small site, but very nice. Facilities were practically spot on. The showers and toilet blocks were well thought out - even had bigger ones for families - and relatively new block. That's one of the things we have found difficult on other sites. Amy greeted us, and was really pleasant and helpful. Wish we were staying longer than one night!

    Disliked:

One criticism here - the washing up station only had a cold tap! There was no wifi available, but that's not something we were bothered about.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review Katy and your feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed our site. We are looking to have more vanity sinks, and hot water washing stations with our facility extension over the winter which will be a welcomed improvement. Thank you very much for your custom and we wish you all the best for the rest of your summer.

Well managed and tidy site. Tucked away and quiet with lovely views. Warm welcome from Amy who explained everything about the site. Spacious pitches with little hedges just planted in between which will look even better in future years. So nice for a site not to just cram as many people as possible in but put thought into making it an enjoyable environment.
Nice clean toilet facilities and large shower cubicles and nice warm showers.
Basic site but perfect if you want a quiet pleasant camping experience and don't need all the bells and whistles of bigger sites like WiFi/fridges/shop etc.
Local shop and pub nearby and short drive to larger supermarkets.
Hope to return again next summer!

    Disliked:

Can imagine it might get windy as it's quite exposed but we had perfect weather!

From the manager...

Thank you Lindsay for such a lovely and thorough review! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and what we are trying to achieve. We are still continuing to build the campsite around what you, as the customers like best so it's thanks to all the great feedback that we have shaped the site as we have. We really appreciated your custom and would love to see you back again next year!
Best wishes,

Directions

Coming from Redruth, enter Illogan coming up a large hill. At the brow of the hill you will see two chapels opposite one another. Take it slowly here, as the site is 50 yards further on, on the right-hand side opposite a little crossroad sign for Richards Lane. Look out for a concrete lane with central grass verge between two white cottages; this leads up to the site.
