  • Quiet back-to-basics site on a working farm in Illogan
  • Golf course, trampoline park and watersports lake within 20 minutes
  • 10 minutes' walk from village pubs and 45 from Portreath beach
A working farm on the edge of a Cornwall village, with easy access to country footpaths and a 45-minute saunter from the beach… the kind of place one could settle in for a lifetime, eh? The folks at Hillcrest Views Campsite certainly think so – the family set up home here over 80 years ago and haven’t budged since. Current owner Amy’s now welcoming guests to share in her tribe’s special spot while making sure it doesn’t lose its peaceful vibe – thus the small site has pleasingly spacious pitches but only basic amenities. Flick through the pics and you’ll note some gorgeous rural views: a fab backdrop for stoking up a barbecue while the kids race about playing games. Admire those views for a bit and you’ll probably think you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pleasing to remember that you’re a mere 10-minute amble from Illogan village and its pub, shops and chippy (plus a pasty shop, of course – a staple in these parts). If you’re doing DIY dins, supermarket supplies for your meals can be picked up in Redruth, 10 minutes’ drive away. You could spend many a day wandering on local trails and beaches, but if you’ve brought the kids it’s handy to know that you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from all sorts of family attractions, including a castle, a trampoline park and a watersports centre. It’s also just a mile or so to the A30 for those looking to head to more far-flung attractions like St Ives or the Eden Project.

What customers say

A grand spot, spotless and quiet, with big, private pitches. Grand facilities, hot showers, and lovely views. Amy and Roger, the owners, are dead on. Great for seeing Cornwall, with the village and walks nearby. A bit of wind and the entrance can be a tad tricky.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Hillcrest Views is exactly the kind of campsite you hope to find when travelling in a campervan quiet, clean and relaxed. The site sits on a hill with wide open countryside views, making evenings feel calm and private. It’s the ideal stop if you want somewhere peaceful but still close to Cornwall’s best beaches and cliff walks. My favourite campsite in Cornwall!

Fully-serviced grass and gravel tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Had an amazing 4 nights at Hillcrest. The pitches, facilities and grounds were kept immaculate by Amy and Roger.
They were both super friendly, helpful and always available.
The site was within 10 minute walking distance to the nearest pub and amazing Pasty shop in the village. We also enjoyed walks in nearby Tahidy Woods and the coastal path between Portreath and Porthtowan.

Also a special mention to Amy and the 2 mechanics working on the farm that sorted our pop top roof. Without them we wouldn't have got home. Thank you 🙏🏽

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a superb campsite, kept beautifully clean and tidy. Nice showers, loos and wash up area. We were grateful for the hedges around each pitch which helped keep us sheltered from the wind. Gorgeous views. Walking distance into the village where there are shops and a pub, and lovely woodlands to walk through. Amy and Roger looked after us very well and were really helpful with advice on local places of interests as well as any questions we had about the site. They froze the blocs for our coolbox and rescued my shower gel when I left it in the shower. Camp fires and BBQs are allowed as long as it's not too windy.

Disliked The entrance to the site is a bit tricky to find but Amy gave us very detailed instructions - thank you!

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The welcome from Amy and the check in experience was the friendliest I've ever had. The pitches were beautifully laid out with hedges to separate and give privacy. We were given the choice of several different pitches which was also very generous. The toilet and shower block were clean and well cared for. The site had everything we needed. It was also close to pubs and corner shops - walking distance - which was great after a long drive.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Absolutely wonderfully kept site. The whole place was tidy and pruned with the grass cut nicely. Amy and Roger really keep on top of the maintenance, which they were openly doing even in the extreme heat.

The toilet/shower block again was spotless with Roger keeping a close eye on things. Good hot and cold water pressure in the huge shower cubicles. Very private.

The only thing I could suggest as any sort of constructive feedback is that when the shower curtains are closed (shower 1) to the rest of the cubicle, the lights go off which was pretty startling at first especially in dim natural light from the partly clear roof, leaving me to shower in low light. This could be rectified by a wave of a hand but this is every 30seconds literally.

(Not putting this in the dislike as it’s not a ‘dislike’, I just used a different shower to fit my personal preferences).

The touring pitches in The Meadow are generous for our twin-axel caravan with good spaces between pitches each with privacy hedges between. In the centre of The Meadow is a great space for the kids to play. Everything is set out great with no feelings of being cramped or compacted.

We have a really relaxing time with plenty of dog walk opportunities. The views are breathtaking, a real beauty to wake up too.

Good phone signal on site but not so much in the villages though.

Disliked Again it’s a personal preference and so nothing that Amy and Roger can really rectify but there are lots of spiders. I appreciate it’s a farm and so perseverance is required to accept these 8 legged creatures.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much Mel for your comprehensive review. We always love feedback to help improve and/or refine our site. The light sensor is an easy fix - the spiders not so much but I can take note for sure. It was a pleasure meeting you all and I am so pleased to see you are back again for the summer so thank you so much.
Wishing you all the best until we see you again.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Great location for exploring Cornwall with clean facilities.
The view from our pitch was stunning and the actual pitch itself was huge and very well maintained.
Amy is a great host and she builds a rapport with her guests way before you set foot on the grounds.
For us, this was the second time we’ve stopped here, and we will definitely come back!

From the manager: Thank you so much Alexandra! It was a pleasure welcoming you back this half term and I'm really pleased you enjoyed another stay. Your repeat custom is most welcome and I love those sunrise pictures. The sun rises and sunsets on site recently have been absolutely stunning. A reminder of some of the simplest pleasures! Wishing you all, all the best for your Summer and beyond and we look forward to seeing you again.
