Holywell Bay Holiday Park: Meet Sid and Lizzie

General

  • Direct access to the golden sands, surf and fun park of Holywell Bay
  • Pool with huge waterslide
  • Nature trail, restaurant, adventure playgrounds and indoor soft play

Legend has it that mothers used to visit Holywell Bay to bathe their ailing children in the healing waters of the sacred spring hidden in the rocks, but whether or not you believe in ancient myths, you’ll most likely find a stay here restorative.

It’s one of the best beaches in Cornwall, with jawdropping views, golden sands, good surf, and rockpools that make for perfect paddling – and lucky guests at Holywell Bay Holiday Park have direct access down a short path through the rolling dunes.

Holywell Bay Holiday Park offers great facilities for its size: a whopping 300-foot waterslide for a screamworthy splashdown into the heated outdoor pool (open from May to mid-September); a toddlers’ pool; all-weather sports courts; adventure playgrounds for different ages; and an indoor soft play area. Pint-sized campers will be enthralled by the Starland Krew, who lead the lively kids’ club activities for tots to 10 year olds.

Have a wander along the nature trails to make the most of the spectacular surrounds, then reward yourself with a Costa coffee on the outdoor terrace of the Ellenglaze Bar and Grill, which dishes up a range of grub to suit all tastes. Singers, magicians, stand-up comedians and quizzes will keep the whole family entertained during the evenings.

Pretty site, reasonably priced, never-ending stream of bingo09/10/2020

  • Liked:

    - Really picturesque location, easy walking distance to the beach.
    - Male shower block in reasonable condition, and pretty clean
    - Pitch was a great size and accommodated our large tent easily. Pitch also pretty level
    - Good sized bar, reasonably price
    - Food available on site, not the best but good to have the option when you don’t feel like cooking
    - Some staff on site were a great laugh - Security manager and one of the bar waitresses in particular really gave us a laugh
    - Absolutely no phone service, however site-wide WiFi was only £20 for the week for all four of us
    - Helicopter rescue training hub next door to site, really interesting to watch

    Disliked:

    - While the location was pretty, the site isn’t really near anything other than a small pub, so you will need a car
    - Female shower block was dirty and very run down
    - Cleaning staff were quite frankly rude, and didn’t stick to the agreed cleaning times
    - Bingo, bingo, bingo - the layout of the bar means all who are present have to sit quietly while the endless stream of bingo games are conducted. Entertainment staff were quite annoying too
    - Some staff members quite rude and dismissive
    - Don’t let the pictures fool you, the pool is tiny!

Local attractions

There’s a small fun park in Holywell Bay itself, with bumper boats, karting and the like, plus an 18-hole pitch and putt course. A short drive inland will bring you to the popular Dairyland Farm World, which also has good indoor facilities for rainy days, and the Lappa Valley Steam Railway, where three miniature railway lines wend their way through pretty parkland.

Seven miles along the coast from Holywell Bay Holiday Park is Newquay: not just for surfers, it’s stuffed with fun things to do for the whole family, including a good zoo and aquarium.

Otherwise, you’re well placed to explore some of Cornwall’s top attractions, such as Tintagel Castle, the Crealy Great Adventure Park, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

For souvenirs that are guaranteed to go down well with the folk back home, try Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm, where you can take a tractor ride through the beautiful orchards before stocking up on scrumpy, jam and other goodies in the farm shop.

Must see

  • Fistral Beach (3.1 miles)
  • Blue Reef Aquarium (3.3 miles)
