Holywell Bay Holiday Park: Beach at Holywell bay

General

  • Direct access to the golden sands, surf and fun park of Holywell Bay
  • Pool with huge waterslide
  • Nature trail, restaurant, adventure playgrounds and indoor soft play

Legend has it that mothers used to visit Holywell Bay to bathe their ailing children in the healing waters of the sacred spring hidden in the rocks, but whether or not you believe in ancient myths, you’ll most likely find a stay here restorative.

It’s one of the best beaches in Cornwall, with jawdropping views, golden sands, good surf, and rockpools that make for perfect paddling – and lucky guests at Holywell Bay Holiday Park have direct access down a short path through the rolling dunes.

Holywell Bay Holiday Park offers great facilities for its size: a whopping 300-foot waterslide for a screamworthy splashdown into the heated outdoor pool (open from May to mid-September); a toddlers’ pool; all-weather sports courts; adventure playgrounds for different ages; and an indoor soft play area. Pint-sized campers will be enthralled by the Starland Krew, who lead the lively kids’ club activities for tots to 10 year olds.

Have a wander along the nature trails to make the most of the spectacular surrounds, then reward yourself with a Costa coffee on the outdoor terrace of the Ellenglaze Bar and Grill, which dishes up a range of grub to suit all tastes. Singers, magicians, stand-up comedians and quizzes will keep the whole family entertained during the evenings.

Friendly staff, good location for the beach11/01/2022

The location is fantastic for exploring Holywell Bay. Our stay was towards the end of the season so the pool and slide were closed unfortunately, the climbing frame park was well maintained. We didn't use the bar/entertainment facilities but did spend some time in the amusement arcade where the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

On the first morning there was no hot water in the women's shower block so I had to endure a Wim Hof experience, this was resolved by day two thankfully. I'm told that the men's facilities were fine and had hot running water. We were aware of the lack of wi-fi at the site and I'm assuming that this has been looked in to but if anything could be done to bring connectivity to the pitches it would hugely improve the site.

Good location, very close to Holywell Bay beach which is stunning.

Good access to site, head directly to pitch allocated once check-in completed online.

Touring pitches are of a good size, water located on each pitch with plenty of waste/Elsan facilities within easy walking distance of any pitch.

    Disliked:

Reception staff were not very helpful when we enquired about local amenities, off-site. Despite being given inaccurate information, there is a great beach bar, GullRocks Bar, located literally five minutes off-site heading towards the beach. There us also another pub within walking distance, but we found this to be very expensive in comparison.

When we booked in February we were never advised WIFI would be chargeable. This cost £17 for the week. Without it, you are pretty much helpless as there is no phone signal on site whatsoever.

We never accessed the pool once. Arrived on site to see a booking system had been implemented, permitted 1 hour usage per day. Bookings could not be made via managing our booking online, this was a local measure implemented. Appalling and no rationale provided.

The facilities on site were very tired, albeit cleaned regularly.

We did try to get a drink from the bar one night, to be totally ignored for 15 minutes and then advised to download an app to order food and drinks.

Workers on-site didn't observe the speeding limits and we saw many maintenance vehicles speeding excessively, not really what you need if you have you ones with you.

as this was our first motorhome holiday,we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the pitch.facilities were available as advertised ..however please see comments below.

    Disliked:

toilets were disgusting and left dirty.we didnt see any evidence of cleaning..although showers were roomy..again dirty.was looking forward to swimming pool but had to book a slot which was next day and clashed with other plans..plus slide wasnt working.didnt use the club as the app was a nightmare as was advised by staff had to use and was unable to order food or drink.so went elsewhere which was expensive and inconvenient .i had to get my phone wiped upon return as app caused virus.for the money i paid and very angry as we stayed on much cheaper sites which put holywell to shame regarding hygiene.holywell was supposed to be the highlight of our stay in cornwall .i feel ripped off and will never return or recommend to anyone with or without children.

Local attractions

There’s a small fun park in Holywell Bay itself, with bumper boats, karting and the like, plus an 18-hole pitch and putt course. A short drive inland will bring you to the popular Dairyland Farm World, which also has good indoor facilities for rainy days, and the Lappa Valley Steam Railway, where three miniature railway lines wend their way through pretty parkland.

Seven miles along the coast from Holywell Bay Holiday Park is Newquay: not just for surfers, it’s stuffed with fun things to do for the whole family, including a good zoo and aquarium.

Otherwise, you’re well placed to explore some of Cornwall’s top attractions, such as Tintagel Castle, the Crealy Great Adventure Park, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

For souvenirs that are guaranteed to go down well with the folk back home, try Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm, where you can take a tractor ride through the beautiful orchards before stocking up on scrumpy, jam and other goodies in the farm shop.
