  • Small family-run touring site in the village of Sidlesham
  • A 10-minute drive from Chichester and south coast beaches
  • Simple, well-kept pitches; pub two minutes' walk away
As one might guess from the name, Bucket and Spade is close to the coast – about 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches of Bracklesham Bay, West Wittering, East Wittering and Selsey, in fact. This touring site's handy location means you can spend many a day bouncing around between different coastal corners, trying out watersports, building sandcastles, paddling and taking walks through the dunes along the shoreline. Being slightly inland means that this site also has the advantage of being surrounded by splendid West Sussex countryside for walks and other outdoor activities (with the handy bonus of there being a pub two minutes’ walk from the site for a drink and some food at the end of the day if you want…) For other eating options you may like to head up into Chichester, which is 10 minutes’ drive away and has plenty of places to pick from (and a whole bunch of things to see and do as well, of course). Life on site is fairly simple, with the facilities stretching just to toilets, showers and a washing-up area. It’s all nicely maintained though, with plenty of space and trees to give shade, privacy and a bit of colour.

What customers say

This small, well-maintained campsite receives consistent praise for its exceptionally clean and modern shower and toilet facilities. Guests frequently highlight the spacious, level pitches and the friendly, helpful owners. Its convenient location offers easy access to local pubs, public transport for exploring nearby towns, and numerous walking and cycling routes. While some guests noted road noise, most found it minimal. A few mentioned limited bathroom facilities during peak times and the absence of WiFi. Overall, visitors highly recommend this peaceful and well-located site and express a desire to return.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Cleanliness and newness of showers. Security of closing front gate. Nicely spread out pitches. Walking distance to a lovely pub!

Disliked Cold showers in evening, messaged contact, but no response until the morning when the water was hot again! Road noise meant we needed to have pop top down, wasn't too bad but stopped my husband sleeping.

Rusty shepherd's hut (four person)

Liked Shepard's hut lovely. Great campsite quite and peaceful and very clean.

Disliked Only thing I didn't like in the Shepard's hut was the toilet door as it clashes with the bed steps, would be better as a folding or normal door!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Spacious pitches - our hard stand pitch seemed newly done, along with 3 others. We had our own water supply as well which was nice and unexpected.
Warm welcome from Warden. Facilities very clean and again nice that it is actually two complete bathrooms and one toilet.

Disliked Getting off the property onto the busy road can be a bit awkward, but not impossible.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Small campsite with very good, clean facilities. Just a few minutes walk to a reasonable pub.

Disliked On a very busy road, one evening the traffic didn’t stop at all. Heavy Lorrie’s as well as cars. Part of pavement to pub is very small and the lorries come very close.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Excellent, quiet, dog friendly site in a great rural location.
The hard standing pitches with grassed area are ideal for a guaranteed flat surface plus the ability to erect awnings/windbreaks etc...
The toilet/shower areas are well laid out with plenty of hangers and a mirror in each one. Toilets were always clean and the showers were hot. Good washing up facility.
The bus stop serving Chichester to Selsey is a couple of minutes away, with buses every fifteen minutes. Very handy if you want to leave the van on site for the day.
Pub with beer garden across the road as well.
Plenty of places to walk the dog around the local paths and lanes. Will definitely revisit.

If you are using a satnav you may find that it takes you past the site. It's about 100 yards past the Anchor pub on the right, so look out for the pub on your left and the thatched cottage. If you reach the garage on the right-hand side you have gone too far.

Local attractions

And so to the beach – perhaps with a bucket and spade for the sandy stretch at West Wittering or some watersports kit for surfing or kitesurfing at Bracklesham Bay (both 10 minutes’ drive). Elsewhere along the coast, take walks around the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (five minutes) or out to Selsey Bill (10 minutes), or go wildlife-spotting at Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve (15 minutes). To get a sense of the area’s history, a trip to Weald & Downland Living Museum (15 minutes) is a must – the various exhibits, demonstrations and buildings are great for getting kids intrigued in times gone by. There’s more history to soak up at Fishbourne Roman Palace (10 minutes) and around Chichester (10 minutes), where top recommendations include the cathedral, Pallant House Gallery and Festival Theatre. For alternative activities, perhaps you’d fancy playing a round at Chichester Golf Club (five minutes) – or maybe sampling the top-notch sparkling wines on a tour and tasting at Tinwood Estate vineyard (15 minutes).
