Bucket and Spade: Touring pitches

General

  • Small family-run touring site in the village of Sidlesham
  • A 10-minute drive from Chichester and south coast beaches
  • Simple, well-kept pitches; pub two minutes' walk away

As one might guess from the name, Bucket and Spade is close to the coast – about 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches of Bracklesham Bay, West Wittering, East Wittering and Selsey, in fact.

This touring site's handy location means you can spend many a day bouncing around between different coastal corners, trying out watersports, building sandcastles, paddling and taking walks through the dunes along the shoreline.

Being slightly inland means that this site also has the advantage of being surrounded by splendid West Sussex countryside for walks and other outdoor activities (with the handy bonus of there being a pub two minutes’ walk from the site for a drink and some food at the end of the day if you want…)

For other eating options you may like to head up into Chichester, which is 10 minutes’ drive away and has plenty of places to pick from (and a whole bunch of things to see and do as well, of course).

Life on site is fairly simple, with the facilities stretching just to toilets, showers and a washing-up area. It’s all nicely maintained though, with plenty of space and trees to give shade, privacy and a bit of colour.

Please note

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Nice small site with friendly owners. Facilities (showers/washing up, etc) were excellent - hot showers, with plenty of room. Although we don't have a dog there was a nice path/field to walk them. Pub (which did not open until the day we left unfortunately) within a short walk. Unfortunately the Witterings were full to bursting on the day we tried to visit so couldn't experience them this time.

    Disliked:

Very busy road and lots of traffic virtually all of the time so not as peaceful as I would like.

A small site in a peaceful location even though near a main road . We had lots of space around our Motorhome with a countryside view . Showers were clean and we never had to wait. A good location for Chichester and surrounding beaches . A friendly helpful couple host . We will return !

    Disliked:

Didn’t realise we were so near so many bike routes , that would be good to put on website .
The Anchor was closed and not opening until July 19!

The site is a good size with plenty of space between pitches. well placed for access to Chichester and the coast.
    Friendly helpful owner.

    Disliked:

Although the site is listed as a CL, there is an adjoining field for campers, caravans etc which means there are many more people using the facilities than you would expect on a CL. Also, the facilities were not checked regularly and we found no hand soap or sanitiser a few times and couldn't see anyone around to ask for them to be replaced... and you shouldn't have to.
The site is on a very busy road so there is constant traffic noise, but ok for a couple of nights.

Brilliant little camp site. Location amazing for walks and cycling days out. Bus stop on doorstep (not that we used it) Crab n Lobster 5 min on bike. Facilities what you need! Clean, spacious (showers/toilets/dish wash room/ water on tap/bins) very spacious pitches with loads space so you don’t feel invaded. 24hr garage 2min walk for any forgotten supplies or cravings. Very friendly welcome and we thought reasonably priced. Cannot fault it. Highly recommend and will use again. Thank you 🙏
