Bucket and Spade: Touring pitches

General

  • Small family-run touring site in the village of Sidlesham
  • A 10-minute drive from Chichester and south coast beaches
  • Simple, well-kept pitches; pub two minutes' walk away

As one might guess from the name, Bucket and Spade is close to the coast – about 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches of Bracklesham Bay, West Wittering, East Wittering and Selsey, in fact.

This touring site's handy location means you can spend many a day bouncing around between different coastal corners, trying out watersports, building sandcastles, paddling and taking walks through the dunes along the shoreline.

Being slightly inland means that this site also has the advantage of being surrounded by splendid West Sussex countryside for walks and other outdoor activities (with the handy bonus of there being a pub two minutes’ walk from the site for a drink and some food at the end of the day if you want…)

For other eating options you may like to head up into Chichester, which is 10 minutes’ drive away and has plenty of places to pick from (and a whole bunch of things to see and do as well, of course).

Life on site is fairly simple, with the facilities stretching just to toilets, showers and a washing-up area. It’s all nicely maintained though, with plenty of space and trees to give shade, privacy and a bit of colour.

Please note

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

2nd visit. Brilliant location. Endless choice of beautiful cycling routes with fun destinations and can be traffic free if preferred and plenty of walking options for the hikers. Toilet/shower facilities nice and spacious and private and cleaned regularly and hot water every time I used them. Motion light as you enter for night good touch too when needing a visit in the early hours. Good stocked Garage 5 minute walk away if extras needed. Bus stop 2 min walk away with bus 51 every 15 mins to Selsey or Chichester (£7 return-take card payments on the bus). Anchor pub literally across the road with carvery and pub food. Site relatively small so never feels overcrowded and you are given a fair sized pitch to set up on . Very friendly owners who make the effort to interact with you but not so much that you feel invaded. Highly recommend and we will return at some point. Lovely little family run site.

    Disliked:

    Only small dislikes:
In view of present situation, covid, think maybe the hand sanitiser and paper towels should be kept stocked up - was empty for a day we were there and bin overflowing but didn't notice this issue lasts visit and was literally for one day so may have had a rush on.

Pitch we were on we chose due to be side of the sun, however, water supply is taken from here. Maybe water needs to be a fenced off section with entrance not across the pitch as during one hour there seemed to be a constant flow of people there and people cut across our pitch to walk to the loo, looking into our awning etc - no biggie but at times felt like a lack of privacy .... this happened on one day but not the others so maybe was just a particular group of visitors not recognising where they were walking....

    - Really well maintained site with a decent shower & toilet block (basically little private bathrooms)
    - Well located for exploring Witterings, Itchenor, Chichester, Selsey and Bognor
    - Friendly & helpful owners
    - Pub with good food and beers about 100m away (recently renovated too)

    Disliked:

    - Busy road next to the site
    - Road cycling nearby isn't great as pretty much every road is busy.... There is a good network of gravel cycle paths though

Our first venture in our new caravan we selected this site as it was close to where we had picked it up from and we really like the area. We found the site easily and once greeted, were shown to our pitch. It was hard standing on this occasion but the site is reasonably level so it’s not essential. Lots of space between pitches made it easy to get set up. We had a spot so our awning would be facing south and we had sun streaming through all day.
Toilets and showers were clean and plenty of hot water. Never had to wait.

We visited the Anchor Inn a couple of times which can be easily reached on foot (@150 yds). Good food including a carvery every day. There’s a garage which has a Londis in the opposite direction for essentials, we didn’t use but convenient nonetheless.

We really enjoyed stayed here, the site has new owners who plan one or two enhancements - we’d certainly stay again.

    Disliked:

The site is close to the main road to Selsey which is quite busy. It didn’t bother us but if you are looking for absolute silence then this won’t be for you.
