General

  • Plenty of private woodland to enjoy
  • Wonderful surroundings, set within the South Downs National Park
  • A secret hideaway for a great camping experience

Fox Wood is a beautiful family-focused campsite at the bottom of a wooded valley within the South Downs National Park. The campsite is in a 35-acre private woodland and each of the pitches has its own firepit area for campfires with log seats.

No cars are allowed within the woodland but wheeled trolleys are available from reception to help move your tents and bits to and from your pitch. Alternatively, ask a member of site staff to run your gear to your pitch for a small charge using our site vehicle.

Being off-grid, the toilets are composting and water is pumped from an underground well. The toilets can be found in a purpose-built modern block (five for ladies and three for men) where there are also two gas-powered showers (small charge applies).

Come for a visit on your next camping break and find our secret hideaway in the woods. This is wild camping at its best!

Loved the beautiful wooded area! Compost toilets were also in great shape and the couple/staff who run the place were super friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

Lots of quite loud kids running around, although we were there for the first weekend of the summer holidays so it's to be expected I guess. :) It would be nice to have a more "adults only" area on the property. Also there were several people who didn't really respect the whole "quiet hours" idea, with a few playing music late into the night and others letting their children run around shouting very early in the a.m. Again, not anything that the staff could change really.

A magical place nestled in the woods. So much space between the pitches that you really felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. We always look for a site where dogs and campfires are allowed and Fox wood positively encourages this relaxed attitude to camping. Loved the 'off-grid' ethos and we were pleasantly surprised at how clean the compost toilets were. Very modern and kept up together. The showers were very roomy ( you could fit small children in with you, if you wanted to)and we didn't mind paying the £1 via the honesty box. The delivery of firewood to your tent was a nice touch and Sarah was very welcoming and helpful. Take a torch as it does get pitch black at night time, perfect for the campfire atmosphere. The local pubs are dog friendly, which is a must for us and there is lots of choice at reasonable prices. We went to The World's end, just down the road.
Thank you Sarah, we will be back x

Best campsite ever! 27/08/2016

We stayed for 3 nights prior to the August Bank Holiday. We were extremely lucky with the weather but that aside the camp site was amazing and in our opinion the best we've stayed in across the UK.
Fab, large pitches that you can select for yourselves under the forest canopy.
Proper fire pits allowed and fire crates and wood available to hire / purchase.
The showers and toilets were very clean and well maintained.
Amazing fun for the kids and parents alike. Will definitely go again and can't rate this place highly enough.
Aside from the camp site there's a really nice pub, The Fox, about 200 metres up the road from the campsite entrance.
There's also the coast nearby, and loads of great cycle routes, plus a couple of large supermarkets to keep you in supplies.

Campfires, camping in the woods so lovely not on top of each other and the staff are very friendly helping you with gear getting it to the tent and coming round with log runs which you can buy off the truck. Me and my partner loved it as did our 2year old very safe running around as the cars are kept away from the camping area. We will definitely visit next year!

Great campsite ideal for families or couples with a very friendly, quiet and accommodating atmosphere. It is the best campsite we have stayed at so far. The site has a larger campsite with more open pitches surrounded by trees and a smaller wild side set in slightly denser woodland. We chose the main site as it was great weather and we wanted to enjoy the sunshine as mush as possible in the more open pitches. The pitches offer plenty of personal space and reasonable distance from the neighbours for privacy. The trees offer welcome shade if it is too hot and also provide a great visual effect adding to the already magical atmosphere when the sun light beams through the branches. The fire pits have nice wooden benches around them which was nice. The campsite is surrounded by fantastic countryside walks through fields and woodland which was great and exactly what we wanted. The owners are very helpful and friendly and the fire wood drop off service early evening is a great touch. The facilities are first class with hot showers, washing up room and a toilet block providing loo roll and hand wash. The toilets were VERY clean and for anyone who has stayed at campsites with chemical loos or been to music festivals in the past these loos are like thrones. I did read a couple of comments on here about how it was dark in the at night with no lights? Whilst it is true that during our lovely walks through the stunning natural woodland of the campsite that as expected we did not pass any convenient mains sockets hanging off the trees for lighting but my guess to overcome this non issue would be to just take a torch.

The generous pitches are spread through the woods. Most people are not booked on a particular spot so you just wander through the woods looking for a free fire pit and pitch up next to one you like. There are more spots than they take bookings so even if you are last to arrive when it's fully booked you will still get a choice. These are the best composting loos I've visited. Regularly cleaned. Despite being remote we still got 4g which was useful at times

    Disliked:

Despite them being the best composting loos I've experienced they are still composting loos!
