General
- Simple pitches behind a West Sussex country pub
- A 15-minute drive from Horsham; half an hour to the South Downs
- Friendly pub with homemade food, beer garden and play area
Country walk, nice pub dinner, couple of drinks, very short walk back to your bed… if that sounds like a top way to spend a day, get yourselves over to the pitches behind The Blue Ship, in a rural West Sussex spot just under 10 minutes’ drive from Billingshurst.
The pitches here are on the basic side (toilets are provided but not showers) but they’re very well placed for rural walks and bike rides – nearby trails run alongside rivers or canals and through little villages, and there’s easy access to the Downs Link route not far away too. Families and dogs are welcome on site here too, making it a splendid spot for a weekend away in the countryside.
Barbecues are permitted on the pitches if you’re in the mood for a bit of alfresco cooking – Bilingshurst should have most of the supplies you need, and bigger Horsham is about 15 minutes’ drive away. That said, the prospect of an evening in the pub is likely to be enticing too – it’s got a good menu of homemade dishes (including desserts and weekly specials) and an equally tempting range of drinks including cask ales.
All of this is rightly popular, so it’s a good idea to reserve your table in advance if you want to eat in the pub. In sunny weather, the beer garden (with a play area) is the place to be – or maybe you’d like to order one of the pub’s pizzas to take back to your pitch?

Thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to write a review, as a small family run establishment we greatly appreciate your custom. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you another time. Best Wishes Sophie. (Just a side note to anyone reading this review and the comment re lighting, our toilet lights do work and are operational during pub service but over night we have to turn the lights out due to our rural location. Both our listing and our welcome letter state you will need a torch for your stay) |

Thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to write a review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and yes Fishers Farm is a fab day out for the children and lots of our guests visit as it is close by. With regard to the toilets, due to our rural location we have a Klargester and it had been emptied the day prior so I can only apologise for this but you can appreciate this is out of our control and the tank has to be emptied when needed. Best Wishes Sophie. |

How entirely predictable for us to receive your review! It is interesting how you don’t write anything about the circumstances surrounding your dissatisfaction or that you still stayed at our campsite regardless of supposedly hating it all so much! Your two year old child was in our private entrance when the pub was closed (not the pub enwtrabce) and was unwrapping cutlery that was on a table in a basket ready to be placed out for evening garden service when the pub re-opened. I had seen this on our CCTV and so came down and POLITELY asked you not to allow him to unwrap cutlery that was ready and intended for people to eat with that evening. Rather than simply apologising and that would have been the end of the matter, you entirely denied this and “swore on your life” that this had not happened and yet when I made you aware I had this on CCTV and had witnessed you watch him do so, laugh and place the cutlery back, you did not have much more to say on the matter and walked back to the campsite! We are extremely child friendly and welcome families every single weekend (as you will no doubt see from our countless other reviews) but I do not think any of the other parents would have considered their toddler unwrapping cutlery particularly funny or acceptable. Hygiene is of more importance than ever since the pandemic and I would not imagine any person would want to eat with cutlery that a toddler had been playing with, I know I personally wouldn’t want to do so. Luckily as I had witnessed this happen I was able to take all 40 sets of cutlery (he had only handled some as far as I could see but I could not take any hygiene risks), unwrap them and put them all back through the sanitiser. They then had to be dried and rewrapped so all unnecessary extra work on a busy weekend. We never like to have any dissatisfied customers and this is a real rarity for us but sadly this situation was entirely of your making and was completely avoidable. We hope you find a campsite that you regard as more family friendly in the future and perhaps one that is more tolerable of this kind of behaviour. Warm Regards Sophie. |

Thank you for visiting us and for your kind review. For anyone reading this I would just reiterate that we do only offer basic camping as described in our listing and do advise people to bring torches as areas are unlit at night due to our rural location. There is a water supply in the campsite where most people wash dishes etc but you would need to bring your own washing up bowl to do so. We did used to leave some bowls there for people to use but since Covid we have had to change some procedures as I’m sure you can appreciate. We do kindly ask all campers to take their rubbish home with them, this is firstly because of the disposal costs we would incur with the sheer volume of waste and also for hygiene reasons particularly since Covid. Hopefully this did not detract from your stay and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Very Best Wishes Sophie. |

Thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to write a lovely review, we really appreciate it. We are indeed just basic camping but as you rightfully state, if you want a quiet rural location with lots of lovely walks then we can definitely deliver that. We would love to be able to offer more facilities and hopefully in the future additional toilets may be an option but as we are a listed building it is not quite that straight forward in terms of planning permission. Additionally after an extremely difficult couple of years due to the pandemic hitting our industry so hard, this year is not a feasible time for us to invest funds in to further facilities but if things continue to be busy and Covid is behind us then it certainly is in our future plans to increase our camping facilities. Thank you once again and we hope to welcome you again soon. Very best wishes Sophie |
