  • Rural dog-friendly adults-only site in Sherfield English
  • Half an hour's drive from Salisbury and 10 minutes from the New Forest
  • Cosy country pub within a 15-minute stroll
To Hampshire for a holiday in a rather relaxed kid-free spot? Meadow Tree Farm is a nearly-wild site with basic facilities on a working beef farm. Friendly and adults-only, it is spread over 21 acres on the edge of the village of Sherfield English, about 10 minutes' drive from Romsey. There's plenty of space for you (and any doggie companions you may have brought along) to chill out on site and, most importantly, a cosy country pub a gentle 15-minute stroll away. Fishing lakes are next door and there are fab trails for ramblers and cyclists a few miles away in the New Forest National Park. Back at base the laidback vibe is preserved by keeping facilities to a minimum, but the essentials are all in place, including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Sounds good? You'd better be quick: Meadow Tree Farm is a pop-up site that's only open for a limited amount of time each year.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is set in a peaceful woodland location on a working farm, praised for its friendly, accommodating owner and the freedom to choose your own pitch. Guests appreciated the relaxed atmosphere, allowing campfires, and the dog-friendly environment. Facilities are described as basic but generally clean, though some found them limited and dated, with plans for upgrades mentioned. Its proximity to the New Forest and local amenities was a highlight.

Electric forest floor tent pitch (woodland)

Liked Beautiful quiet location with safe walking to local village and local footpaths. Would be great to bring bikes to explore further afield. Saw buzzard, red kite, kestrel. Heard woodpecker and owl. Basic facilities but clean with hot water and good shower. The toilet block floor is naturally going to have some forest floor debris dragged in.
Owner is friendly and no nonsense

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked Tranquility amongst the trees

Disliked Toilet / shower facilities certainly not up to scratch. Especially because of the number using the site

A large party was expected on the Saturday night. We were told when we arrived and to be fair noise subsided by 11pm ish

Only issue we had was a noisy neighbour who doesn't understand camping etiquette and played UNO very loudly with his partner. I think it was 1am before I got to sleep.

Being questioned about booking in whereas I booked in the previous day. Having to explain my chair was not a tent and it being a large chair. Well Im tall so need a big chair.

Perhaps check people's car registrations on arrival to save further confrontation

From the manager: I am very sorry if I caused any offence – that was certainly not my intention. When I saw a car pull in and a guest removing a bag of the size usually used for a pop-up tent, I naturally assumed it was a new arrival. From where I was standing, I didn’t immediately recognise you, as we had only met briefly when you checked in while still in your car.

I do my best to remember every guest, though this is not always possible, and for security reasons I must challenge anything that looks unusual to ensure nobody is sneaking onto site.

I appreciate your suggestion about checking car registrations, though in practice it isn’t always possible to carry those details with me when I am moving around the site.

We do make it clear on our website that we accept large groups, and I work very hard to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum after 11pm. On arrival, I explained that I live onsite and am available to deal with any issues. Unfortunately, nothing was reported to me during your stay, so I was unable to address any disturbance. I personally walked the site between 11pm and 12:30am and did not hear anything excessive outside the group area.

Our toilets are described accurately on our website, and the situation is fully explained to guests on arrival. They are cleaned three times daily, and I rely on guests to report any problems that occur outside of those times so they can be resolved quickly.

During your stay, our only interactions were at check-in and later when you collected your chair – at which time I apologised for the initial misunderstanding, as I do again now. At no other time were any concerns raised with me about noise or facilities. Had they been, I would have acted immediately to resolve them.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked We were a group of about 10 people, and we loved how laid-back things were. Kylie was an exceptional host, reminding us gently and pre-emptively about campsite etiquette while also giving us space to enjoy ourselves. The shower and toilets are basic but clean, which was perfectly fine by us – if we wanted glitz, we'd have booked a Hilton. All in all, a great stay and we'll be back.

Local attractions

Bring your boots along, for there’s much rural rambling to be done in the New Forest National Park around a 10-minute drive from Meadow Tree Farm. Bike trails run through the forest too, and you can saddle up to see the wildlife from horseback at a riding centre a few minutes’ drive from the site. Other open-air activities nearby include teeing off at one of the golf courses within a 15-minute drive or swinging through the trees at the Go Ape park half an hour away. Sailing lessons and boat trips can be had from Southampton or Lymington, both within a 45-minute drive. For history-infused days out, head to Sailsbury or pay a visit to Romsey Abbey, Breamore House or the vintage car collection at Beaulieu, all of which are within a half an hour’s drive. For animal antics, Marwell Zoo is also about half an hour away.
