  • Rural dog-friendly adults-only site in Sherfield English
  • Half an hour's drive from Salisbury and 10 minutes from the New Forest
  • Cosy country pub within a 15-minute stroll
To Hampshire for a holiday in a rather relaxed kid-free spot? Meadow Tree Farm is a nearly-wild site with basic facilities on a working beef farm. Friendly and adults-only, it is spread over 21 acres on the edge of the village of Sherfield English, about 10 minutes' drive from Romsey. There's plenty of space for you (and any doggie companions you may have brought along) to chill out on site and, most importantly, a cosy country pub a gentle 15-minute stroll away. Fishing lakes are next door and there are fab trails for ramblers and cyclists a few miles away in the New Forest National Park. Back at base the laidback vibe is preserved by keeping facilities to a minimum, but the essentials are all in place, including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Sounds good? You'd better be quick: Meadow Tree Farm is a pop-up site that's only open for a limited amount of time each year.

Liked Really lovely woodland area which we needed to hide from the sun! Was a really peaceful stay, loved sitting back and listening to the birds in the trees.

Electric forest floor tent pitch (woodland)

Liked Beautiful quiet location with safe walking to local village and local footpaths. Would be great to bring bikes to explore further afield. Saw buzzard, red kite, kestrel. Heard woodpecker and owl. Basic facilities but clean with hot water and good shower. The toilet block floor is naturally going to have some forest floor debris dragged in.
Owner is friendly and no nonsense

Liked Fabulous site, loads of space, really friendly owner, able to pick our own pitch. Able to use fire pits and they sell logs here too.
Nice little garden centre a few minutes walk away with a little cafe where we had a very nice breakfast

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked This was one of the closest adults-only campsites we found, and I must say it was pretty good. The site overall was clean, with plenty of pitch locations, and benches were available throughout. You have everything you need for a short stay. Overall, we were happy with it.

Disliked Facilities could be frequently maintained.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Location and site staff

Disliked No bins, poor facilities, long grass. Also Pitchup states a pub in walking distance. There is but may or may not be open and doesn’t serve food. Food trucks are sometimes on pub site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay and didn’t raise any of your issue to us while on site if you had we could have addressed some of them and informed you where the bin was. The facilities are well advertised, and reviewed with pictures so I am unsure why these were an issue for you. There is long grass around the front paddock and down the track however the grass on the camping field and woodland is maintained regularly.

As for the pub it is a short walk away and is now under new management. we sadly can not control their standards or services as they are not affiliated with us in anyway. We do, when appropriate inform guests of the recent issues with the pub and provide alternative recommendations. There are many other pubs in the area either a further walk or a short drive. Also with Romsey only 5 miles away there are good quality local takeaways that deliver to the area.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked Friendly campsite owner. Lovely spot in a wooded area close to the Mottisfont. We were able to use our fire pit to have barbecues and were able to purchase logs onsite.
Facilities basic but good (space to wash dishes outside by the toilets).

Disliked Only one shower was available which meant that during busy periods it would mean queuing.

Electric forest floor tent pitch (woodland)

Liked Location. Perfect. A peaceful forrest. Basic facilities but that was OK.
The host was a lovely lady who was very helpful and friendly.
Great that it was adults only.

Disliked The noisy group of younger people. One of the guys had an annoyingly loud laugh, ( at least he was enjoying himself).
To be fair the party stopped at 11 pm. But he was back up by 7am!!!!

Electric forest floor tent pitch (woodland)

Liked The personal approach. The owner clearly cares about everyone there and makes the effort to talk to them.

She’s lovely and honestly made us feel so comfortable.

Disliked Just not enough facilities for everyone there. The one shower just meant you were having to constantly watch when it might be free.

Could do With a bit more info at the check. I felt bad having to phone so much.

Local attractions

Bring your boots along, for there’s much rural rambling to be done in the New Forest National Park around a 10-minute drive from Meadow Tree Farm. Bike trails run through the forest too, and you can saddle up to see the wildlife from horseback at a riding centre a few minutes’ drive from the site. Other open-air activities nearby include teeing off at one of the golf courses within a 15-minute drive or swinging through the trees at the Go Ape park half an hour away. Sailing lessons and boat trips can be had from Southampton or Lymington, both within a 45-minute drive. For history-infused days out, head to Sailsbury or pay a visit to Romsey Abbey, Breamore House or the vintage car collection at Beaulieu, all of which are within a half an hour’s drive. For animal antics, Marwell Zoo is also about half an hour away.
