Hill Farm Caravan Park: Pitches

General

  • Family-run and dog-friendly park in a calm countryside setting
  • Peppa Pig World and Romsey town centre within 15 minutes’ drive
  • Playground, recreational fields, dog-walking area, café and tennis

Ham it up on a hol at Hill Farm Caravan Park, a dog-friendly and family-run site a 15-minute drive from the popular Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park and less than 20 from the numerous walking trails of the New Forest.

A grand spot for keeping the kids entertained when they’re not off fawning over their favourite cartoon character, this site has a playground (for ages 11 and under) with a covered sandpit, a Wendy house and a tyre swing, as well as a recreational area where teens can hang out. A walk for canines leading down to the site’s woods, where four-legged friends can frolic off-lead, is set just behind here.

If the sprogs (and dogs) in your life aren’t travelling with you, the park still makes a brill base – it’s a top spot for touring the Test Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and Stonehenge (40 minutes) or sojourning to the cities of Southampton, Salisbury and Winchester (all within half an hour). Ferries set off from half an hour away if you’re off to France or the Isle of Wight.

Staying local? The park’s handily placed for horse riding, walking, golfing or fly and coarse fishing hols. Come evening, it’s a peaceful place as the no-noise policy after 11pm boosts the chances of a good night’s snooze.

Head to local pub The Hatchet Inn, a 20-minute walk away, for supper and a pint just before bedding down; for breakfast and lunch, the on-site café serves up light bites and cakes in the week and does roasts on a Sunday. A shop on the grounds sells alcohol, groceries, newspapers and a small selection of caravan and camping essentials.

We will definitely be returning, the Warden and all the staff are so helpful and friendly.
We had a wonderfully peaceful stay, that is until our little yorkie got spooked and darted off late one night. It was pitch black but a large party of campers & the warden all grabbed torches and help us search for her, and thankfully they found her.
The next day the Warden and the lovely girls in the site shop, helped me to order a large fruit hamper as a thank you to them all.
The whole atmosphere is truly a breath of fresh air.

Nice site with good facilities. Pitches were really level. Lovely shaded dog walk right off back of site which was badly needed in the high temps. Showers were really good. Good power and really warm all day.

    Disliked:

We were in centre part. Here Pitches were on top of each other. We were surrounded on all 4 sides of our stay. Not ideal for us. We would return but in a different area- they have some lovely pitches shaded by trees off to the side.
One member of the ground staff was quite rude to campers. A grandfather with his 3 grandsons pitched a tent next to us on last night. (Twas Grandsons first time camping ) He pitched his tent and 2 of his tent pegs strayed over the pitch line onto adjacent pitch. The grounds man ordered this grandad ( a man in his late 70s ) to take his tent down and move it to within the lines. I feel he should have dealt with this situation with a bit more tact. No one turned up in the adjacent pitch anyway. We help him move his tent.
The washing up facilities should probably change their taps to the push button type. The ones that automatically shut off after a few seconds. Twice I went there to find no Hotwater due to tap still running ( the taps were quite hard to fully shut off )

Shower and toilet block. Dog walking area. Although site was very busy as expected in July it was quiet after 10pm. Local pub within easy walking distance and they also deliver to the site.

    Disliked:

COVID restrictions could have been better monitored in communal areas. It would’ve been good if shop could stock a bit more fresh produce.

Kids can’t get enough of creatures? Marwell Zoo houses more than 200 rare species, from tigers and snow leopards to rhinos and hippos, and the Hawk Conservancy Trust cares for birds in its combined 22 acres of woodland and wildflower meadows. Both are around half an hour away.

If urban explores are on the agenda, Romsey (15 minutes) is the nearest market town for a wander round the shops, while the promise of a peek at one of Britain’s best cathedrals might be enough to lure you over to the city of Salisbury (25 minutes).
