Electric grass pitch

Liked: Good sized pitches, friendly staff & great location.

Disliked: 1. The soil is quite stoney making it extremly difficult to pitch. 2. The pool has been under construction for 3+ years; meaning the child pool isn't up and running, no lifeguard so not very safe. Rules state no food and drink but no one around to enforce? 3. The clubhouse is very dated and doesn't serve food. 4. The new food van outside ran out of veggie sausages on their first night, and with the clubhouse not serving food it meant that there wasn't a single vegetarian option besides stale chips. 5. The shop basically only stocks fizzy drink, chocolate and dog food, wheres the essentials? Milk, Butter, Bread etc? 6. The shower block needs a regular cleaning routine, and a major upgrade, the shower is run on a timer, meaning you have to press a button every 3 seconds to keep it running, there are not drain covers and they are quite deep which is a cause for a trip hazard, it looks ugly and old and smells. 7. Last but not least, the no toilet roll rule is completly stupid. I understand if theres been vandalism but maybe if you had regular cleaners you could stay on top of it? Having the carry your loo roll from your tent is A) Embarassing as a male as everyone will know what your going to do and B) Such an inconvienance in the rain, by the time i got to the toilet i needed a whole new loo roll. C) The toilet stools don't provide anywhere to put the loo roll whilst you go, or wash your hands. After you wash your hands you have to carry the loo roll back to your tent which is completly un-sanitary and un-reasonble. The park has so much potential to be fantastic, and whilst the soil is out of their control, theres a lot else which could be easily fixed that lets them down.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice level pitches. Good ground maintenance. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Decent swimming pool. Toilet / washing up facilities clean and tidy. Nice bar, decent drink selection. Clean and modern looking. Good supply of basics in their on site shop. Site was nice and peaceful during our stay.

Disliked: Our pitch space was manageable but we had to ignore the pitching rules in order to pitch our trailer tent without it going into the road. We had enough space between our 2 pitches but if we’d have been on our own we’d have had no space really by the time we had put the car next to us. Needs better drainage from the drinking water taps in the fields, we had a constant puddle by our tap. Need to put anti-slip mats in the swimming pool family changing rooms as my mother in law slipped and fell. We were disappointed that the bar wasn’t open mid week. Games room had space for a lot more interesting games for the kids so found this room a bit disappointing.

Disliked: Parts of the site were a bit run down. The children’s park wasn’t great. It was annoying having to use our own toilet roll.

Local attractions

You needn’t stray far from base for fresh air activities: it’s a minute’s walk to East Moors Fishing Lake for days in quiet contemplation of the waters, and there’s further fishing five minutes’ drive away at Moors Valley Country Park, along with miniature steam trains, adventure play trails and golf. If it’s rides and slides you’re after, Adventure Wonderland is 10 minutes away, with rollercoasters and log flumes, safari jeeps and battle boats; for fans of a certain cheeky cartoon porker, Peppa Pig World has rides and an indoor playground (20 minutes). Wanting watery antics? Also 20 minutes away, Splashdown Waterpark has all the required river rides and waterfalls, or if you prefer your waves at a distance, head into Poole (25 minutes) for harbour cruises and ferry rides to Brownsea island. Beach lazing, windsurfing and fossil hunting are handily close by at Bournemouth (20 minutes) and along the Purbeck Heritage Coast around Studland (50 minutes). The surrounding Studland and Godlingston Heath National Nature Reserve makes for fine hikes, especially when the landscape turns into vivid yellows and purples in summer. Surrounded by the New Forest, Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst (20 minutes and half an hour) are popular hubs for bike hire and numerous cycling routes. There’s a six-mile family-friendly circuit close by around Burley (15 minutes), or for those with bigger ambitions and calf muscles, a 15-mile loop from Brockenhurst.
