  • Waterside Cumbrian retreat in the rural Eden Valley
  • Three miles from Kirkoswald; 30 minutes' drive to the Lake District
  • All pitches come with a firepit and picnic bench; coarse fishing lake
Established in 2021, High Hall Campsite gives you the opportunity to come and experience everything that makes Cumbria tick. Tucked away under the hills of the North Pennine fells and set deep in the gorgeous Eden Valley, this modern site is an excellent place to arrange a relaxed rural retreat. The grounds here are divided by Croglin Beck, a scenic stream that meanders its way through the middle of the site. There are plenty of waterside views around and the wildlife is abundant: red squirrels, roe deer, barn owls and kingfishers could be among the creatures you spot. There are also farm animals to admire and a well-stocked coarse fishing lake that guests can use free of charge. (Please note that a catch-and-return fishing policy is in place.) This Cumbrian campsite is fairly remote, but it's easy to drop by in Kirkoswald (three miles from base), an Eden Valley village with a hotel, pub, convenience store and ruined castle. High Hall Campsite is located on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty. This secluded site would also make a good base for day trips to the Lake District, as the national park is approximately 30 minutes away by road.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Gorgeous area. The owners are lovely and so helpful. The swing by the cow shed looking over the farm was beautiful. We stayed at the site Alder and it was amazing to sit outside with the beck flowing next to us. Lots of snacks available. The shower room and toilets was clean during our stay. There is also a compost toilet as well. During night time, it was quiet as it was out of the way which made it peaceful hearing all the owls, watching the stars and using the camp fire (free) at night time. Overall a good campsite.

Disliked The cow shed is amazing and we love the football table and ping pong ball. However, as the weather was bad, we went to look for some board games and cards to bring down and was not a lot of choices.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I like their Eco friendly amenities and the full sky views with the moon pretty much in full view.

Disliked The lake is not being looked after, quite a lot of pines. This is very easy to get rid of with a simple dye without harming the fish. A mice put a hole on my tent. There are quite a lot of small Mice holes on the tent fields which need looking after or more campers tent will be destroyed.

From the manager: Hi Richard

Thanks for your feed back.

We have treated the lake with pond dye this week, so hopefully this will clear the pines up. I am sorry to hear about the mouse issue, this is the first time we have heard this and we will look at resolve the problem going forward.

Thanks

Jimmy

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site was lovely, well kept, pitches spaced out so you felt you were in your space not on top of each other, gorgeous views, honesty shop on site with logs readily available for the fire pit available at each pitch. Owners were welcoming and friendly. The site was positioned well to explore the area.

Disliked Eco toilets get some getting used to as others have said but it is definitely not a game changer. Flushing toilets are available for those that don't want to use them.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We’ve only stayed at High Hall Farm once, but it certainly won’t be our last visit.

Travelling in our van, we're always looking for sites that offer something a little special, and High Hall Farm absolutely delivered.

From the moment we arrived, we were struck by how peaceful and beautifully maintained the site is. The setting is stunning, with plenty of space, lovely waterside pitches and incredible views across the surrounding countryside.

What really stood out was the atmosphere. It’s quiet, relaxing and feels like a genuine escape from everyday life. We spent the evening sat outside the van, enjoying the scenery and simply soaking it all in.

The facilities were excellent, everything was clean and well cared for, and it's obvious that a huge amount of thought and effort has gone into creating such a fantastic campsite.

For a first visit, we couldn't have asked for more. High Hall Farm exceeded our expectations in every way and left us wishing we'd booked for longer.

A fantastic campsite in a beautiful part of Cumbria. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful campervan or camping getaway.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Local attractions

There's a lot to see and do in the local area without venturing far: Kirkoswald Castle (10 minutes' drive) is well worth a visit, as are Lacy's Caves (15 minutes), a series of five sandstone chambers carved out by an eccentric 18th-century landowner. On a slightly grander scale, there are also ancient sites like Hadrian's Wall (20 minutes) and Birdoswald Roman Fort (35 minutes). If you're Lakeland bound, start off in Pooley Bridge (30 minutes), a pretty little waterside town where you can catch the Ullswater steamer service to gorgeous Glenridding at the other end of the lake. The market town of Keswick (45 minutes) on the shores of Derwentwater is easily accessible too – head here for boat hire, to browse an array of independent shops or to visit the Derwent Pencil Museum and learn about the local graphite industry. If you want to cover varied terrain, you're in the right place: this site is three miles down the road from the Coast to Coast cycle route (join at the bottom of Hartside Pass), and if you fancy dipping dipping your toe in the Yorkshire Dales it's easy to hop on the Settle to Carlisle railway 10 minutes down the road at Lazonby.
