High Hall Campsite: The pod sits on the banks of the Croglin Beck

General

  • Waterside Cumbrian retreat in the rural Eden Valley
  • Three miles from Kirkoswald; 30 minutes' drive to the Lake District
  • All pitches come with a firepit and picnic bench; coarse fishing lake

Established in 2021, High Hall Campsite gives you the opportunity to come and explore everything that makes Cumbria tick. Tucked away under the hills of the North Pennine fells and set deep in the gorgeous Eden Valley, this is an excellent place to arrange a relaxed rural retreat.

The grounds here are divided by Croglin Beck, a scenic stream that meanders its way through the middle of the site. There are plenty of waterside views around and wildlife is abundant: red squirrels, roe deer, barn owls and kingfishers may be among the animals you spot. There are also farm animals to admire and a well-stocked coarse fishing lake that guests can use free of charge. (Please note that a catch-and-return fishing policy is in place.)

This Cumbrian campsite is fairly remote, but it's easy to drop by in Kirkoswald (three miles from base), where points of interest like a hotel, pub, convenience store and ruined castle can be accessed.

High Hall Campsite is located on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty. This secluded site would also make a good base for day trips to the Lake District National Park, which is 30 minutes away by road.

This was a great find.Really well thought out site. large pitches, fire pit and table on every pitch. Quiet and peaceful, situated by stream that runs through site. Fishing lake and countryside views. Modern facilities in converted cowshed at farm, plus composting toilets in lower field. Very friendly family run campsite. A great site to spend some time in the countryside, of for a quick stop over when traveling further.

    Disliked:

    Disliked:

picnic benches were a bit rough (splinters)
toilet and shower doors had gaps in the doors so not totally private
quite a steep hill to climb to the showers so if you struggle with mobility it will be a challenge.

Location is amazing - very rural and peaceful but with shops and pubs within a few miles. Facilities on the site were very good, having been recently built. There are composting toilets very close to the pitches and more traditional facilities a five minute walk up the hill to the farm. There are a number of modern showers, sinks as well as table tennis, a selection of board games and a TV. The scenery is fantastic with lovely views of the valley, a babbling brook and pond. We saw barn owls, dragon flies, frogs and fish. The pitches are well spaced, each with a picnic table and brazier for a fire.

Composting toilets near main field …. but you don’t have to use them there are more than enough flush toilets in the main barn.
