Electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked The grounds are beautiful, there’s crazy Golf , chequers , beautiful barn with bar and entertainment, we walked the dog trail which ended up by the playground and 2 goats (Ice man and Caramel) and of course the chickens. The fields are equipped with toilets and showers which were cleaned daily and had hot water constantly. The is laser tag but we didn’t try it and a food wagon came which was a lovely treat . All in all it was a lovely few days we would recommend the site.

Disliked The paddock forks only had toilets , ideally a shower would have been nice .wi for would of been fantastic

Electric grass tent pitch (eight person)

Liked The camp site! Visited here before and was one of our favourite sites

Disliked When we arrived we were informed by another family that there had been a mix up with the pitches, when we went to check in we were told we had been moved as there were a group of families that wanted to be together so had moved us over, which were ok with as didn’t want to be in between them! We were told to pitch our tent in the middle of the 3 vacant pitches and as someone was arriving the next day on the end, once we had pitched our tent and had our beds etc in they then came
To tell us that we were actually on the wrong pitch and needed to move over one as there were two tents arriving the next day that had requested to be together, we weren’t happy about this however we moved our tent over as again we didn’t want to be in between two families! We were brought a bottle of prosecco as an apology from Jane who was in charge at the time. The next day we had planned to have tea at the site with shake, waffle and roll, 5pm came and went and there was no sign of them, 5.30pm we rang them and they had explained they had been cancelled two weeks ago as there was a wedding on site and apologised for the inconvenience! I went up to the main office on the site to see what was going on, who were under the impression they were coming as they had the sign out advertising, I explained I had spoke to them and they weren’t coming! We decided to order a take away, around 8.30pm well over 24 hours after arriving at the site Jane and a male member of site approached our tent to inform us that we hadn’t booked the van on the pitch and just the tent, we explained that the van was only storing our belongings and we weren’t sleeping in it! Not even an apology for wrongly accusing us of something we hadn’t done!We were asked to move the van off the grass which we did, however there were other vehicles parked on the grass at the time to which we have photograph evidence of however we were clearly the only ones spoken to regarding this! On the Sunday evening we were talking to the family in the tent next to us who explained they didn’t even know the family next to them so there was no need for us to move after all! this was the final straw and we made the decision that we won’t be returning to the site another numerous issues from the staff over the weekend and poor hospitality from the staff

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we welcome any constructive feedback and always strive to improve. We are genuinely sorry for the confusion when you arrived, we do ask all campers to come to reception before checking in. Unfortunately the shake waffle and roll issue was beyond our control however we did manage to get woodfire pizzas here for 8pm selling from the courtyard so it was quickly rectified. The vehicle on the grass wasn't the only one we had to remove due to the poor weather, We did speak with everyone who had left a vehicle on the grass to remove it. Once again we apologise for the initial mix up and wish you all well. Many thanks :)

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Getting up early to leave site and returning late.

The drive home pulled into a petrol station told the site has a reputation of been miserable and up there own 🤐

Disliked Toilet/shower blocks discussing faeces and toilet paper scatted around.
Despite being in a beautiful remote location most other user’s seamed miserable, and couldn’t wait to complain about my 5 year old daughter throwing a ball for our cock-a-poo off the lead in a empty field.
Big family staying on the tent pitch played load music every night.
On site pub had a strange vibe all locals or regulars

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Loads of space to camp out tent, great facilities onsite & the goats are a bonus! Great location for day trips to the lakes, would stay here again!

Disliked Some of the toilets didn't have toilet roll most of the weekend. There's also exposed wiring on the extractor fan on one of the cabins which was a cause for concern considering the moisture that builds up during showering.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The views and the grounds were all very beautiful. The playgrounds were good although designed for older children so my younger daughter was unable to play much. The goats and chickens were a good addition.

Disliked The field we stayed on (paddock) was clay soil to did not drain, after a fair few days rain it was very boggy and muddy. Even the few days of dry weather did nothing to dry out the ground or mud. The electricity was off for a day which we were warned about, but we weren't aware this included the showers and water in some of the blocks. Despite the information all stating it is a family site and no noise after 11 this doesn't actually seem to be enforced as several families on our field had not problems partying until the early hours with loud music and shouting.

As well as the hiking trails of the Lake District National Park, active options nearby include Bassenthwaite Lakes, 20 minutes’ drive from base, where there are lakeside paths, boat hire and tours and tastings at Lakes Distillery. Derwentwater, half an hour away, has kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing; you could also get out on the water on an Ullswater Steamer at Pooley Bridge (access 40 minutes' drive away at Penrith), cruising by some of the area's highest peaks. Historical highlights are plentiful in the region too: Carlisle Castle and Mirehouse House and Gardens are both within half an hour, Gretna Green is 40 minutes away and the remains of the great Hadrian’s Wall are reachable in about an hour.
