General

  • Family-friendly site with stunning views across Solway Firth
  • A 10-minute drive from the Lake District and 20 from the coast
  • Shops and restaurants five miles away in Wigton

Rural rambles without having to leave base – bag a berth at Blaithwaite House, 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Wigton, for a taste of life on a Cumbria country estate.

And not just any old country estate – this one stretches for a generous 200 acres, bringing with it 50 acres of woodland to frolic in, and a walking trail that covers over two miles (Yes, it’s a big place, so best be picking up a map before striding forth.) Enjoyed that warm up? More walks, bike rides and other outdoorsy pursuits are 10 minutes’ drive away in the Lake District National Park or 20 minutes away on the Solway coast.

Time to catch your breath? Settle in on site for splendid views over the Solway Firth or to cook up something tasty at the barbecue and firepit area (shop ahead and you can stash your supplies in the site’s fridges and freezer). If cooking doesn’t appeal, decamp to a local pub – two an easy five-minute drive away serve up homemade food.

Still got energy to burn? Play areas, a football field and a playing field offer plenty of space to let off steam. If you’ve got a gaggle of buddies on hand, book ahead to mercilessly hunt them down with a game of laser tag... whatever you get up to, don’t forget to give a cheery wave to Snowy the goat and her chicken pals.

The site may be sizeable, but facilities aren’t far-flung – washing-up areas and individual toilets and showers are in the pitches field and supplied with hot water from the eco-friendly biomass boilers.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings must not be for more than 21 consecutive nights.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The site is also a wedding venue: the rose garden, summerhouse and miniature golf are not available to camping guests when a wedding is held.

Small site with lovely clean facilities. Fun for the family with crazy golf, outdoor chess and play areas.

    Disliked:

Electric tent sites a little close together but manageable. Wedding party not too noisy but pouring empty bottles in bottle bin at 12.45am not conducive to sleep when it is right next to site.

Very peaceful, staff member we checked in with was very friendly and the site and some activities on site. The kids loved the crazy golf even though the weather wasn't in our side they still had fun. Kids play areas were close to the pitch which was nice because we didn't have to worry about them being too far away. Was nice to have individual showers and toilets in their own room which were clean.

Absolutely fantastic campsite. So much to do for the kids including 2 parks, mini golf and a football field. I felt they were complete safe to play and barely saw them over 4 days. They just returned for food and sleep! My youngest and me loved Snowy the goat and her chicken friends!

The toilets and showers were clean and in self contained units which were lovely and warm. The power shower was better than mine at home!!

The campsite grounds were gorgeous and they were kept clean and tidy. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed August Bank Holiday for 4 nights. It is a small site, so easy to keep an eye on the children (7 & 3) whilst they played but not over crowded. Lots of other families too which meant they had plenty of friends to play with. Managed to spend most of a day exploring the estate, which was great - we usually end up leaving a campsite for a days entertainment! Toilet/shower cubicles were well maintained, as were the washing up facilities. Location was great too. Lots of lovely places nearby & not too far to use as a base to explore the Northern Lake District - something we intend to do in the future for a full week stay. Also felt it was a very reasonable price.

    Disliked:

The floor of the toilet/shower cubicles got a bit muddy or covered in grass. It would be useful for a notice to be put on the door or inside asking people to clean & where the mop/brush were. There was a sign on the door of the little shed that housed the fridges saying there were mop/buckets but it wasn’t obvious. Can’t think of anything else that could be improved on to be honest.

Loved the quiet relaxed site with lots of things for the kids to do. The showers were amazing, though would suggest a mat of some kind for when getting out of the shower, or I recommend future campers to take clean flip flops for the shower. Lovely walk to the woods is accessible from the site and the resident goat Snowy was a hit with both my kids. My son loved the massive football field and games room.

This was our first camping trip as a family. Unfortunately the weather for the weekend was windy with heavy showers. However, we had a great stay at Blaithwaite House. We found the site easy following the postcode and was invited in by the friendly, helpful staff.
The adults pitched the tent whilst the children (4,8&10) played on the handy climbing frame to the back of the site.
After having our BBQ dinner we made our way to the back of the House where there was an additional playground and field which we used to play rounders.
The facilities were clean enough and close enough that we felt comfortable sending the 8&10 yo off by themselves, allowing us to keep an eye on them from our pitch.
We enjoyed our weekend stay at this small, tidy, relaxed site and would return.

    Disliked:

    No soap in the toilet.
